I was given this chicken and was told it was a rooster. It is supposed to be Americauna/Buff Orpington. It is wearing an apron since there was some pecking from the other hens on its back. I'm wondering if it really is a rooster.
We have two roosters we need to rehome. They are both about 9 months old. We already have three other roosters and only seven hens. One of our hens hatched them last year. They are half Rhode Island Red and we are not sure what they are mixed with (Either another RIR, Easter Egger or Copper Maran).
Hi! I'm glad I found this thread. Last week one of our older chickens (about 3 or so) suddenly became very lethargic and was laying down most of the time and shaking her head a lot. We removed her from the flock and gave her Rooster Booster. She never got any better and passed away within a...
This is a 14 week old silkie. We thought she was a hen but has recently started crowing. So, now we're thinking rooster, but it doesn't have a comb at all. I've heard that some hens crow and we're hoping this is the case, as it has a lot of personality and we'd love to keep her, but don't want...
Thanks! I'll give her both. The Poly-vi-sol only contains E not selenium. I'll give her that until I can get the correct one. Hopefully it helps a little.
I have an 8-week old barred rock whose neck is cocked to the right. It started suddenly yesterday morning. She otherwise looks and is acting okay. I've looked through the boards and found some older threads on the subject. It seems vitamin deficiency is the most likely cause. I contacted the...
These chicks are just over two weeks old. I posted pics when they were born and I got one guess that they were all hens, but chick 1 and 3 seem to be getting lighter. Anyone else have any guesses?
Thanks!
Chick 1
Chick 2
Chick 3
These chicks hatched yesterday, 3 Cream Legbars and 3 Barred Rocks. I think there might be a lot of cockerels in this bunch. Any guesses?

All 7 of our eggs hatched! I will post pictures as soon as I can get some decent ones. I opted not to help the one that seemed stuck. He eventually worked his worked his way out. This being the first ever hatch I had no idea what I should expect. It helps to get all the different points of view...
I decided not to intervene and once the other eggs hatched she/he was able to get up. All 7 of our eggs hatched! Four were dry and fluffy and have been moved to the brooder, just waiting for the later ones to dry off in the incubator.
We are hatching seven eggs, they all started to hatch yesterday (Day 19). Three hatched overnight, one this morning and the other three are working on it. There are three barred rocks and four cream legbars. This is our first ever hatch and we are new to chickens in general.
I have read that...
Thanks for all the replies. So far four eggs have hatched and the other three are working on it. I've read it's best to wait for them all to hatch before removing to the brooder, so I'm going to try to wait. One chick does concern me. I think he's kind of stuck between an egg and the middle of...
I am not sure where the humidity is at, I went ahead and added the water. Hopefully, it'll turn out okay. I'll post pictures in the March hatch-along forum when/if they hatch! Thanks!
We are hatching eggs for the first time, three barred rocks and three cream legbars. They are in a Brinsea Mini Advance incubator. The eggs are on Day 19, which is when we were told by the people that sold us the eggs to fill up the water compartment before going on "lockdown". When I went to...
