I actually did not realize how it worked with breeding two crested parents together until after I had bought my Trio.
After seeing how one of the hens cannot get around as well as the other because the crest covers her eyes I do not want to continue breeding two crested parents together.
I...
I was told recently that I shouldn't breed two crested together because the crest would be too big and cover their eyes... I have since added non-crested to the flock but they are very young still. It will be awhile before I can get babies from them.
Good morning!!!
I'm not sure what to expect with the crests. Both parents are crested and this is the 3rd chick hatched with a crest at hatch. What does that mean for them? Lol
One hen has a crest that covers her eyes, I have to trim it. The other hen has a smaller crest and so does the roo.
I am looking for a Jersey Giant young roo to put with my blue hens. If you have something that can ship to Waterford, California 95386 please message me with info.
Thanks
What is your opinion on cross breeding the two of these? Does anyone have any pics to share?
I picked up a mixed breed SFH/Orp about 6 months ago and she turned out to be gorgeous. Now I'm contemplating breeding some just for my flock.
I picked up a mix breed chick about 6 months ago. I liked it because it had a crest. It is a SFH/Orp cross and she has turned out to be one of my favorites. She is gorgeous.
Now I'm wanting to breed these two breeds together for more for my personal flock/backyard art
I have Orpington hens...
Spring has sprung and I have planted fresh herbs (peppermint, lavender, lemon balm) on the coop wall.
I'be also planted Leyland Cypress to grow into a hedge to provide shade on the coop.
I just got 5 BO chicks to add to my flock. They are so cute. I currently have 2 LO, 1 choc orp and a couple cross Orps I got as extras so I'm excited to have the buffs now :)
:)
Thank you! I'll have to pick up some chick boost and give it a try. This chick is about 6 weeks old so and it started from what I could tell when it hit this last growth spurt of rapid size
I checked out spraddle leg and most birds are spraddled at the top of the leg.
This lil chick seems to be pretty normal from the thigh to the hock with no spraddle. It is more like it has crooked hocks
