    Rooster Chat

My best rooster was handled from the day we got him. It could be breed specific as my Buffs are really calm and do not bother us when we go into the pen. I did have a very aggressive rooster who would attack any chicken we had handled and he was the first to be put in my freezer.

Dog attacked my chicken so mad!

Yes, I saw it in the pen when I came out. Couldn't catch it though and lucky for it. Talked to vet this morning and he suggested a couple of things both of which I am doing now. They have both eaten and are drinking so now to just give them time.

Dog attacked my chicken so mad!

Just lost 20 birds to midnight dog attack on Thursday. Think it might have been landlords dog from about mile away and my dominant roosters are gone. Two of my remaining roosters got the raw end of the stick so to speak in the battle to rule to flock and now they are basically catatonic. They...

We had them in their own pen and after It was dark, I kept hearing a thumping noise so I went out to check on it. They had all jumped back over and that was the noise we heard. I have two seperated from the rest of the group because they are the bottom of the order and were being targeted...

    Lethargic Chick; Help please?

Its an antibiotic. My chick had pasty butt and his breathing was horrible. He wouldn't do much other than chirp and sleep so I got some from local farm store and started him on it. He is now breathing better and stooll is better; and he has doubled in size over the course of a week.

    Lethargic Chick; Help please?

I have a runt who was failing to thrive and breathing was shallow. I started him on duramiacyn 10 and after a week he has almost doubled, stools have gotten solid, and he is soo much more alert. Once I get him off that then will start a vitamin regimen in hopes of pulling him through. I put an...

I have three..wasn't planning on breeding but my son now interested in showing them. 1 Japanese B and 2 Wheaten Macans. Interesting to watch the whole flock together. The Japanese rules the yard and he is the smallest of the group. He takes it to the marans if they slip up. He will pull them...

How would one inctroduce Dogs to Chicks

I have an Elkhound. She now knows that she is not supposed to chase or harass them in any way unless we say she can. And that is only to help herd our girls into their pen. They will walk into her pen and almost up to her and she just looks at them or she will follow them to try and sniff them.

What treat did your chickies get today?

I have noticed that my group have distinct differences in taste. My big girls love fruit, tomatoes, and anything sweet. My younger ones prefer tart foods. And nobody really likes grape nuts. Oatmeal is everyone's favorite so I usually mix in raisins and a veggie. Big girls eat first and then...
