hi turkey lover, when you say bumped do you mean you made the incubator jolt/wobble or did the switches get turned off? If you just bumped it they should be fine as long as the eggs aren't cracked and if in a turner rack it would be difficult to jolt them too severely. Less movement in the egg...
For those having trouble with humidity whilst in the last days of hatch day 18 -22 opening the incubator can drop humidity instantly, chills the eggs and dries out the membranes giving the fatal shrink wrap effect.
To prevent this set up the incubator correctly early on day 18.
Add wicking pads...
Good news about my incubating eggs, 10 of the 14 have bouncy little embryos growing, I'm suprised by the thickness and amount of blood vessels pumping into the little things which i hope is a sign of healthy chicks! Of the 4 duds two were infertile, one died very early on as there was no blood...
You would expect big eggs, I have learnt to just weigh the eggs when using in recipes as it can make a ton of difference between using two 85gram eggs or 50grammers in a cake (soggy mess that never cooks through!)
I don't have an internet site, my birds are ones I hatched from eggs, a gift...
I have two coro sussex hens and a roo and have noticed their eggs are small despite being such a large breed. They started off laying bantam sized eggs and now after their second season are longer but still only weigh in around 50grams, my isa brown/ mix breed lays eggs almost double the size up...
I have 4 thermometre/hygrometer as i don't trust the inbuilt one, 2 battery 1 stand alone and the inbuilt one on the incubator, they are all in different areas of the tray so I take an average of all. I'm finding the inbuilt one is almost always spot on average which is good. But I just find it...
The puppy pee pads could work, I was going to try that with the dripping system as my inc tends to go through the water and dry it out quickly, temp isn't an issue now where I live which is NSW Australia. Sorry I can't help much with the fogger idea, other than a reptile fogger, there is...
Another way which is trickier is to get some irrigation supplies and use a dripper at the chosen volume they come in 2l to 8l an hour etc and plumb it in to your mains water or set up some kind of gravity feed...
hi hope i'm not too late to join in this discussion. I have a 48 egg janoel8-48 and find it is really hard to keep the humidity high during hatching and lock down. I tried adding sponges, moist towels, even topped up warmed water with a large syringe fitted with 4mm tube so i could add water...
I have the same s shaped channels in mine and it is the solid grey colour, it is impossible to see the water in the channels once the turner is in place and without removing the whole lid. I had trouble maintaining humidity and sadly lost chicks that although healthy got stuck in their shells...
One of the coronation roosters with hen in background
My 2nd generation (possibly 3rd) generation red rooster bred from successive ISA brown generations. I don't know if this is genetically correct but he is looking like a rhode island red, does anyone know if I breed his offspring if I will...
Hi this is my first post on Backyard chickens, I 'm new to genetics and breeding certain colours.
I currently own 2 coronation roosters, two coronation hens just reaching sexual maturity and 1 buff sussex cockerel 4 weeks off maturing. I have some 2nd, 3rd and maybe 4th generation interbreed...
