    Paint Silkies ~ European Lines

No I haven't. It needs to be tried but I haven't liked ANY of the blacks I have hatched. MOST have pigment holes in their legs, toes or feet so that doesn't make for a very appealing BLACK silkie. Not that that should stop me from trying but I have hatched so many I have kept the BEST and the...

    Paint Silkies ~ European Lines

I have not gone back and read all the posts lately BUT I started with Euro paints and crossed them to blacks. The fast turn around amazed me with the F1s taking on larger crests, better toes while keeping the darker smaller combs of the euros. I also had some paints from America and bred them to...

I have been doing GREAT with paints hatching and need to sell a few. If you are interested there is one I just listed on bidbird http://bidbird.com/listings/details/index.cfm?itemnum=1006903083 . If you are looking for cockerels...more mature birds, I have them too. Paints are such hardy...

You start with a white leghorn and breed back to black silkies for about 15 years. That is how it was done...NOT BY ME.

The summer was hard on everything on the farm EXCEPT paints. They did well and I have a lot who need to be finding new homes now. Yes...I pick mine first but all I am selling are much better than what I started with. They are a blend now of European and American. Type and quality has turned...

I am bathing birds for a show tomorrow and this guy is looking very good at this POINT IN TIME. This can change overnight so I will just hold my breath. I would probably take points off for wings but otherwise he is pretty darn good....again, AT THIS POINT. any off color you...

Silkies in general can mature very slowly. You may or may not see waddles even ever so slightly if it is a male...I have them in all sizes. Just give it time and look for a more spiked look in his crest as it forms streamers or...wait for the egg or the CROW. Sorry I am no more help than that.

Quote: Nice color on the bird. I think Eleanor maybe a Elvis though. I tend to think silkies with that swept back ELVIS look in their crests are males. Time will tell.

Quote: IF you breed lavender to blue you won't get any lavender the first crossing. All the off spring will carry one lavender gene and even though some may LOOK lavender they won't be pure. THEN you cross those with ONE gene back to a lavender again and THEN you get 50% lavender and MAYBE...

I am just now finding the time to post a few updates. This is my started group. In another larger pen I have 6 mature pullets (paint) that are laying right now. I am still crossing to blacks. The paint to paint gives you very high percentages of paints but I still prefer using blacks to...

    Silkie thread!

We are the NORMAL folks...working day after day in 115 degree weather, misting birds every hour on the hour while it is triple digits. Now I am feeling the relief of the cool front that came through and enjoying the 104 days. LOL LOL Give me a heads up when you think you might drift this way....

    Silkie thread!

Quote: Your birds could just be molting. It happens and will have them refeathering and looking good again. Your black...looks black, has silver in his hackles I think. That is common in the males, either silver or gold will leak through. It is hard to find a good BLACK male after their first...
