My Pekin ducks don't eat flies !!!???

Thanks for the responses, everyone. Hopefully they'll catch on ... eventually? They are fenced right now, but our free-range chickens do come visit them sometimes. Perhaps they'll see the chickens catching bugs? One can hope!

My Pekin ducks don't eat flies !!!???

I guess? I really never thought this would be an issue. I thought that all ducks would go after flies. Like I said -- my muscovies were SO good at it. I used to find dragonfly wings on the ground because they would catch them and eat everything except the wings, LOL

My Pekin ducks don't eat flies !!!???

I have to laugh at that. Like ... ??? What is wrong with them ??? Oh and I see your coop photo -- I have the same one, only the next size down. I didn't find it quite as "easy" to assemble as they said it would be. There was a lot of frustrated pounding of panels with a hammer to get them to...

Need Kitten Experts, Please? Can I use Hemorrhoidal wipes on painful swollen kitten butt?

I found something online that said that witch hazel can be toxic to dogs, so using it topically can be a problem if the dog were to lick it off. The same thing could possibly be true of the kitten, I would think. (I couldn't find info. on witch hazel and kittens.) I also feel like, as a person...

My Pekin ducks don't eat flies !!!???

My six Pekins are now about 2-ish months old. They're big and they definitely don't look like ducklings any more! I think it's really weird that there are tons of flies in their coop, but they don't eat the flies. Can't Pekins catch flies? What is wrong with these weirdos, LOL? Don't they want...

    Free Range

Four-month-old Pekins are probably too big for a hawk to pick up. I have 15 chickens and 7 ducks. The chickens free range and we've had no issues with hawks -- but we do have two roosters who are pretty darned big and protective. One of my ducks -- a muscovy -- is basically wild and he lives...

Abandoned ducks. Need help on how to catch them.

I have an essentially wild muscovy duck that lives on my property -- we have a large pond. We feed him, but he refuses to sleep inside any of our coops. He's big and faster than he looks, and he's hard to catch. Every fall I have to catch him because if I don't, once the pond freezes, the foxes...

    Help sexing 1 muscovy duck

I have had muscovies before, but I didn't get them till they were grown, so I never saw them as young as yours was at the beginning of this thread. My girls made the tiniest little noise. It sounded like little bells or little chimes. It's super hard to describe but it was really sweet...

ADVICE? I think I have too many boy ducks!

Oh, they're SO cute! If you are serious about wanting to rehome them, let me know. I don't want to pressure you or take ducks you're on the fence about keeping. You can think about it as long as you need. I talked to my partner, thinking she'd say "uh ... MORE ducks?" LOL, but she was...

ADVICE? I think I have too many boy ducks!

Thank you for letting me know. We have lots of options here for placing the ducks away from each other -- 10 acres plus a variety of buildings (house, barn, abandoned old original house, garage) that can be used to block the view!

ADVICE? I think I have too many boy ducks!

Aww, I'm so sorry to hear you'll have to send away your two girls. I am lucky we have space! And for now I'm enjoying having them all together, since I know it won't last.

ADVICE? I think I have too many boy ducks!

Thank you for your insight and your comments about veganism! Like you said -- I don't judge others in any way. I know what these birds are for (in many cases). But certain choices are off the table for me. I won't rehome the drakes -- I really adore them and, like you said, I can't control what...

ADVICE? I think I have too many boy ducks!

Hi all, I bought six unsexed Pekin ducklings from Tractor Supply Co. a couple months ago. I admit that I was just overcome by their cuteness. I've had Muscovy ducks before (I still have one male left from that group), and I have 15 chickens too. So I'm a semi-experienced keeper of flocks. My...

    New here from Ohio!

Hello all, I'm new here! I have 13 hens and two roosters who are awesome, one muscovy duck and six pekin ducks! The chickens were rescues from Farm Sanctuary -- we're vegetarians so we feel good that we can give them lifelong homes. Glad to be here!
