    Brooder Box Sizes

at 3/4 sq ft per bird, you would need 22.5 feet of brooder space. 4x6 would do just fine, but if you're buying dimensional lumber, just do it 4x8, no waste and ive rarely seen/heard people complain about their chicks having "too much" space.

    Surviving Minnesota!

This look like classic molting evidence to anyone? My flock is coming up on a year. Egg production dramatically reduced and this is from the last week. They don't look too terrible like some photos show...

    Surviving Minnesota!

Hope all is well for everyone. Haven't checked in for quite some time. My birds are all laying, and are healthy and happy. Bought the plastic for covering some of the run, but haven't gotten around to it yet. Heated waterer seems to be working well, and the 5 watt LED bulb on a timer has...

    Minnesota!

Well, I figured out why my girls were so sporadic in laying, and a 9watt LED bulb on a few hours before sunrise did the trick! My coop (and entire house) is cut out of very thick woods, so it makes sense that there wasn't a ton of light to begin with. After talking with MCM, I added the light...

    Minnesota!

Mine are between 15 and 22 weeks. The BA pullets are the oldest and they came to lay within 2 days of one another. My other ones aren't too far behind, they squat and are getting very noisy. My buckeyes are probably 18 weeks and are too busy shoveling feed into their mouth to make any noise!

    Minnesota!

Well, my father in laws dog finally got to one of my birds, the little wellie pullet that has been through hell and back. Told my wife to let her dad know the dog is no longer welcome here. She's not happy about it but I'm not happy to be down a poult that should have otherwise been fine.

    Minnesota!

No Way! I cant believe my wife let me keep 1 rooster, not a chance of me breeding birds in the future! I do love the birds I have now, and now that they are able to free range some it makes it even more fun.

    Minnesota!

Hey all! Been a busy week on my side of the world. My rents sold their house so we helped them move. It was my first time away from the chicks for a weekend, and I'm glad to say my coop remains predator proof. I walk the perimeter almost daily to see if i can find any signs of digging, but...

    Surviving Minnesota!

Help! 6,5 weeks old. black Australorp over Ameraucana. Male or female? Thoughts? Named her Oprah the day we got her as she sort of feather sexed a female (amateur here). Will I have to change name to Montel?!?

    Another Pullet or Cockerel thread..

Black Australorp over an Amaracauna. Purchased Straight run from a local chicken wrangler. Chick is very weary of me, which is opposite of my Buckeyes which are the same age and have been with me since day 7. Any thoughts based on look alone?

Hello - Looking for hens in MN

Depends on how old your current survivor is right now, but if they are that young I would say not to worry too much about the quarantining part.

    Minnesota!

They are loving it! I've been opening the pop door every morning. They are slow to come out but end up staying out all day. They immediately took to the nipple waterer and the last few nights I haven't even turned the light on. They are feathering out nicely and are acclimating to their new home...

    Minnesota!

This weather is great!!! I got out and dethatched part of the lawn this morning. As I was collecting all of the grass/stuff, i figured I'd throw a few handfuls in the run with the birds. They love it! In watching them dig Around, eat the bugs/grass and just be birds. 5 weeks now and they are...

    Surviving Minnesota!

Built this door for my run today. I'm darn proud! HWC for bottom 3 feet then 2x4 welded wire the rest of the way coming up shortly. My Chicks are so small I'm not too worried yet but "chicken" time seems to be as confusing as chicken math!!!!
