I plan on building a coop that would house at least 10 small chicken. However, they are all free ranging chicken. So, when it's time for sleep, they run under the house. I was happy about this at first, but months later they ended up sleeping on layers on poop.
I want to avoid this by moving...

i would like to do the same for my unaffected ones, but it's just a real pain trying to catch them. theyre free range and theyve been that way their whole life. they arent used to me holding them. do you have any ideas as to how i should catch them?

its dry pox. the vet said the antibiotics were for roundworms (which i found in their droppings) and some bacteria of some sort (i forgot). she did mention it wont do anything about the virus.
anyway, Ill just go with the wet food and come back in a few days to update

well, thing is, i got it checked up at the vet and the doctor claims it's fowl pox and it will go away in a few days with the antibiotics she gave me. i just want to know if i could feed it through a needle-less syringe for the time being.
yeah i did that before creating this but couldnt find anything useful. i think most people just cull their sick chicken. i dont think i could ever bring myself to doing that
holding the food to its mouth doesnt exactly work all the time but it drinks fine. however, it's very thin and light. i tried force feeding by using a needle-less syringe. it swallowed the food, but cried each time. i stopped since i wasnt sure if that was a safe method. so, anyone have some...
my 3 month old chick has been suffering from a swollen eyelid (completely shut) for a couple days now and has been recently weaned by the mother.
however, the mother still sticks around. she occasionally flies over the fence separating the chicks from the mother and chases them around until...
I have eight chicks born together and all of them are black with red streaks on the neck except for one. it is yellow with a white neck, red streaks all over its body (heavier concentration on the neck), some black spots, and sometimes strays from the bunch exploring the whole yard on its own...
right now i decided to keep the chicks in my backyard which is the size of a small house. they have plenty of space to run around. my house is also raised above the ground so underneath you can find plenty of dirt and open space to scratch. there is no way of getting out except through flying...
they are about three months old now and yeah they're fully feathered. so.. should i just keep her in the cage? it's not very big. actually i could fit probably three more hens in there. very small compared to free roaming.
they're free roaming. anyway the hen finally came home after missing for a whole day and when one chick went up to greet her, they both paused, heads side by side, then all of a sudden she goes into a rage and pecks and pulls at the back of the chick. pulled off some feathers. she then runs to...
she was a free roaming hen so i just let them do what they do best but just yesterday my hen died. now the chicks are running all over the place without a mommy. i have no experience caring for the chicks. what do i do with them? i really feel bad for them.
the chicks were born late january btw
I have two free-roaming chicken that have been together since i got them (they were probably about a month old) and now they are about 6 months old.. maybe more. Just recently, I've noticed only my hen has been showing up for some food. This made me panic because I was thinking maybe someone...
i tried checking out the source of the smell today but the thing is though, he dodges and squirms until he gets a good resting position on my arm. once he has that, he wont let me touch him. if i bother him too much, he jumps off.
