I keep for egg production and rotate out. Just wasn't sure if keeping them in artificial light for 8 to 10 months would do any bad. Thank you for the information. Em Ty
Great information. I am using artificial lighting. Should i give them a break so often or if i do it means that they will produce for a longer period of time but won't produce more eggs?
Hello everyone. Im raising jumbo brown coturnix. Iv heard that male to female ratio 1 to 3. I use 1 to 2. Any thoughts on this other than losing production sooner?
Does anyone know where i can get a good price on a pallet of medicated chick starter 50lb bags. Buying individually im paying 14.95 each. Starts to get a little expensive. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Big thanks to everyone for being so helpful and welcoming to the thread. And I will be contacting the number provided by Ron Skekel. And I will post information after I talk with them. I also have some pekins in the incubator rite now. Should begin to hatch any day now. Hoping to have a good...
Thank you very much for the information. I will look up LA ag center and read. Where would I find information on get the permit to ship and sell processed birds?

I actually bought my pekins from Tractor Supply and they all survived except some kind of predator got 2 of them. But iv been setting traps around my pens and iv caught a lot of raccoons and possums. Have you had any trouble with predators?
So you have your hands full huh? lol:) I did have a pair of Bourbon Red Turkeys but i just never had any luck with hatching. So i decided to sell. Kinda miss them lol. But i definitely want to keep most of my pekins. And they are always so calm. And i think Baton Rouge is about 3 or 3 1/2 hours...
I started off with Rhode Island Reds and Pekin Ducks. Sold all of my RIR though. Kept my ducks. Then decided i would try my hand at quail lol. And Iv got the jumbo brown coturnix. Haven't got into other breeds of quail yet. Was considering Texas A&M though. And im about 20 mins south of...

Totally agree there. lol:) Very good eating. Have you ever tried making a gravy with them and put it over some rice? Did that one night at the deer lease.
New to BYC. Just wondering if anyone knew about selling quail eggs in Louisiana? Do i need a game bird license to sell eating eggs and hatching eggs? Or just for eating eggs? They are Coturnix Quail.
