I recommend Tractor forum. There's some really knowledgeable people on there. A lot of it will depend on the size and makeup of the land that you find and of course, the size of your wallet. I have 9.5 acres, mostly pasture and I found an old Ford 2000 with a bush hog. I would recommend a...
Ok friends, I need some advice from the more experienced hands. I tried to introduce a new hen to my small flock (2 New Hampshire Reds). The new bird was almost grown. In human terms, she would have been about 16. In the yard, the older hens would chase her but then leave her alone when she...
I came really CLOSE to buying a dozen free range eggs to set on Saturday but passed it up. My grandkids are coming in two weeks so I think I'll let them pick out some new chicks from the feed store. There will be more opportunities to incubate in the future but the kids only come down once a...
My hens quit laying for the winter. With the days getting longer, I'm thinking that they'll start laying again in February. Does that sound about right?
Good afternoon all. It's been a while since I've posted. I have an Icelandic rooster that decided he wanted to scare my wife. He ran at her but didn't hurt her. She is scared now to go outside and that's not good. I have to get rid of the rooster, one way or another. He was hatched Easter...
I'm not an expert by any means but at that age, my young rooster's comb and waddle were red and quite a bit more prominent than what I'm seeing here. But your results may vary......
Well, the little rooster started trying to crow this weekend. He sounds like a teenager whose voice is cracking! I need some help here too. I didn't get to video it but he and his sister were running toward each other, jumping in the air and doing chest bumbs. Not just once but probably 3 or...
Good morning good people. I've been reading but not anything else. Work hasn't been fun lately. My two Icelandics are doing fine. I find that they are quite flighty around me. I'm certain that one of the pair is a rooster and the other is a pullet. My problem dog is still curious but...
@bigoledude I hear you. I'm a half bleed myself as Justin Wilson would have said. I too am proud of my heritage. Welcome to the group and feel free to talk as much as you like.
Thanks for everyone's thoughts. I have about decided to keep the dog. Like Pam said, it's more my fault than his. I should have secured the run a little better. I know that I simply will never be able to trust him around the chickens though.
