Week 3-4 since hatch :-) we got them 3 weeks ago today! :-)
We have some quite certain roosters now at this age...at least one cornish rock...one buff orpington...we have one easter egger with orange spots and larger comb than the other two...I read that might be a rooster sign? The three...
Thanks for all the great advice! :-)
We have some days of stormy weather before us so we have waited a bit with the move....today we let all the babies outside! :-) the big girls was also out...so all was on new neutral territory...the big ones barely looked at the gang of small ones
.. still...
They are VERY social birds...we tried to put them in a separate brooder from the chicken babies to give them more room...but they needed more friends...unless we put at least 2-3 other chicks in there they...mostly Rocky will just stand there squeeking.. :-) outside they need friends too... I...
Quite new here and wanted to introduce the cute 2-3 week old ducklings :-)
One have an orange bill and is called Lucky...the other is a bit smaller with a pink bill and that one is called Rocky.
We assume they are Pekins?
They get whiter every day! We got three but the little one didn't...
Wow...that's just sad... we very much knew and got them for meat birds...but I'm still amazed about the crazy growth and size difference! and last time we went to pick up supplies at tractor supply they only had left the cornish rocks and the ducks...so hopefully my store isn't pushing those...
We got 12 chicks and can't keep all for eggs/pets...some are meant for meat...so all of the roosters (its not allowed to keep roosters where we live) and all three cornish rocks will be meat birds. Maybe a couple more too.. but most likely all pullet EE's will stay...and both the ducks will stay...
They are clearly all the family's favorites :-) much calmer and the colors make them extra cute and extra easy to clearly pick a certain chick...not just "one of the black ones" :-) we also got 3 cornish rocks, 3 buff orpingtons but one died, and 3 black australtorps or however they are spelled...
Thanks for all the great replys! :-)
We have more hardware cloth and 2x2's...so we'll build a daycare coop for them :-) we have a new bigger coop on the drawing/planning board for building this spring... so we'll integrate a daycare brooder possibility to it for later batches of babies to stay...
Thanks a lot for the replys! :-) they are cool birds and hopefully we can get some colorful eggs this fall :-) unless all three turn out to be roosters :-)
I will update witj more pictures when they grow older too :-) we got them 2 weeks ago...so they are probably 2,5 -3 weeks now?
Picturetime ;-) here is all three ee's :-)
So Milli the lightest one is more likely a boy? The dark one is really shy...the middle the kids favorite is really cuddely :-)
This is my kids favorite chick...we can't keep any roosters in this area so we try to guess the gender based on colors and prepare them... :-)
Starstripe is 2-3 weeks? And was sold as an amerucana but I guess maybe Easter egger is more accurate? :-)
I read about typical girl boy colors and...
They are about to turn 3 weeks :-) the feathers are coming in nicely :-) the ducks will get more freedom then the chick's.. we are going to make them a new larger coop asap.. :-)
We have nice and warm weather and we have electricity available outside just outside of the big girls run, so I hoped I could take the babies out with their heater asap :-) they are safer in the coop than flying around in the house I guess
So...we need to wait a few more weeks :-) the babies have started being escape artists now...especially the australtorps :-)
this is today's attempt to keep them in place ;-)
We have 11 soon ready to move outside baby chick's...and 3 1year old chicks.
They will live together until we will use some for meat and some for eggs in a while. But how do we best and safest introduce them?
Hi!
We got our first chicken last spring and just got some more and 2 ducklings too a couple of weeks ago.
The big girls are 2 golden sexlinks and 1 production red.
The new babies is 2 buff orpingtons, 3 australtorps, 3 amerucana and 3 cornish rocks. The 2 ducklings probably are Pekin.
I am...
