    Homemade incubator hatchalong

Today was the main hatch day! I’ll probably have a few late ones since I added eggs a day later than the first. I’m having a decent rate, one egg died a few days back, it looked dead, then alive again and then dead again. It also never had any visible veins just a moving mass inside. Weird. Not...

PRETTIEST CHICKEN CONTEST!! + I'M BACK! *Please read post before entering!*

My frizzle rooster! We never knew his mix, but he was a barnyard mix! In this picture he was 1 yr old. And my speckled Sussex rooster. He’s a very sweet boy pretty, but his crow needs work! He’s 10 months old

    Homemade incubator hatchalong

Had a power outage, had to drop my incubator off at a friends house, the eggs got awfully cold, 90-93° For hours. and colder when the power was out. They seem to be doing okay though now, I thought I lost one but it has movement in it so it’s good. My goose decided to sit on eggs as well, she...

Ok. I'm a weird chicken keeper.

I do deep litter, I don’t smell ammonia at all ever, but there’s a lot of ventilation too. I love my chickens! I thank them too for thier eggs every day lol if I could, I’d have house chickens, or like maybe courtyard chickens because the dust is so bad! (I see it now my courtyard aviary LOL)...

Best chicken breed for tick control?

I have a speckled Sussex! Mine are so friendly too! Am actually torn about needing to rehome my SS rooster, he’s such a sweet boy but he’s not the rooster I want for my flock. (Funnily enough the person I got my SS eggs from said they were her meanest chicken) I was always under the impression...

YICK! Brinsea Octagon peeps...don't submerge your base!

Not sure what this is all about but if it’s about humidity issues, I’ve used a humidifier and a plastic hose like the kind in fish equipment bubblers etc. and hooked it to an air intake so it shoots in the incubator

Idk maybe 6$ (not including the bantam eggs cause they weren’t fertile) once I figure out what to do with my speckled Sussex rooster I’ll want to hatch out a few of my own again lol.

Looking for hatching eggs in Reading,PA. Affordable egg prices!

I may end up selling in about a week and a half, since I want to get a few chicks from the rooster I just rehomed since he was a pretty white splash rooster, I really want a hen that color.

    Feeding Dried Mealworms

Well I kept mine inside, you may be able to make a cricket “habitat” if you’re handy. Like a decent sized wooden box, with some sort of lid and an inch or 2 of dirt. At one point I got tired of the noise and stink, so I put them in a bath tub outside. ( I put dirt in the bottom and kept the...

Can a broiler bird live out a normal, full-length life?

I had one die at 4ish weeks from not being able to stand.(he was a lone chick in a bin at TSC so I took him out of sadness) I agree foraging would be the best option for keeping one alive though. My chicks at the time picked on mine really bad.

Looking for hatching eggs in Reading,PA. Affordable egg prices!

Huh I live 30 mins away from you! I don’t have 12 eggs though lol I only get 2-4 eggs a day. Have you checked Craigslist? Theres also green dragon small animal auction. They sell eggs throughout the auction pretty cheap, and at the end of the animal auction (think 11pm-12am) they do lots of...

Best chicken breed for tick control?

In my experience /certain/ bantams do really well at controlling bugs. Not too sure how they would do in the cold though. Most chickens are pretty decent foragers though ( at least all mine are) I’d try for maybe less stocky breeds?

    Feeding Dried Mealworms

You could try a cricket farm, but they get real smelly and have lots of requirements. They also readily cannibalize eachother. ( I had frogs when I was younger that I kept crickets for) Mealworms are very easy to raise, I bought a pack of 500 I think on eBay for 10$~ put them in a critter...

    Feeding Dried Mealworms

My “farm” is just a critter carrier I forget about constantly and when I remember I add food lol. I rarely harvest from it I just let it do it’s thing. I used to give worms to my porch toads, and they would wait for me by the garage door every night.

    Feeding Dried Mealworms

It takes my chicks a little while to figure out what’s edible lol. I had quail who would fly to me for them though, and they ate them from a young age. I think they don’t east them as readily as chicks cause they look like toes, and they know toes aren’t edible. (My quail were bad toe biters...

    Feeding Dried Mealworms

I use that same exact bag for my chickens. They love them! It’s only a treat thing though. I have a little mealworm farm too, and I think my chickens prefer the dried ones.

    Homemade incubator hatchalong

Well guys, I candled some of my eggs a few minutes ago, and all the brabanter eggs look infertle? I candled 2 last night but just figured it was too early to see anything. I woke up and decided to candle a few of my own eggs to see what the deal was. And I see heartbeats in a few of my own eggs...

    Homemade incubator hatchalong

I managed to get the cool side up a bit and the warm side down by covering holes on cool side but opening them on warmer side. I do have a fan but idk how much that works. And there’s the fish tank thermometer slowly going up still

    Homemade incubator hatchalong

I’ve considered getting a dimmer switch but I’m not a handy person at all. And I’m not sure how to connect one either since my incubator is so small. (I’ve looked it up a few times, I just lower my bulb wattage, ( like 10 watts lower would work better imo) The temp doesn’t swing so much that...
