Just bought a bag of this from Chewy. It has very good reviews but when I got it, I noticed it only has 13% protein. How can it be labeled layer feed? Do I need to supplement more protein?
No response yet but I did order another type of feed and have upped their protein. Their combs were looking rather pale and are now back to bright red and I’m seeing new feather growth so fingers crossed I fought it in time.
I know there are a bunch of reasons why this happened aside from the...
I’ve been using Grubbly feed since I got my day old chicks in February. They all eat everything but I noticed a difference in the bag I got in October. Since feeding them from this bag, they started picking feathers and laying has slowed down a bit. They just haven’t looked as good as they did...
They are definitely all hens and all laying for about 2 months. I’ll keep my eyes on both of them but if I do have a picker, I’m pretty sure I know which one it is.
Just posted a few pics. There is one that is the worst but the other 3 leg bars all show some feather loss at the base of their tails. My 2 Easter Eggers are fine with no feather loss
I use first Saturday lime and have sprayed for lice and mites several times using Premo Poultry Spray. There’s no redness at all and the one bare spot hasn’t gotten any bigger but I just got more spray and plan to spray again today.
Hello! I have 4 cream leg bars and 2 Easter eggers. All were purchased as day old chicks in Feb of this year. They are all 8 months old now.
I've been told by many that hens this age shouldn't be molting but all 4 of the leg bars show signs of loosing feathers at the base of their tails. Easter...
When I first got chickens 1 1/2 years ago, everyone thought I had lost my mind. I told them I was thrilled that I would know where the eggs came from and what the hens were eating as well as knowing they would be treated far better than the poor dears laying eggs for commercial producers. One...
Oh yeah, they're molting! I've got 6 girls around the same age. Their coop looks like the pillow fight to end all pillow fights has been going on and the girls are naked! I swear they look embarrassed and don't want to run out into the yard like they usually do. I've also gone from 4 - 6 eggs a...
One thing I've noticed is the different kinds of sunflower seeds available. I've seen BOSS as well as a gray seed which seems bigger. Is there a difference or can I use either?
Thanks everyone for the info. It appears that chickens will eat pretty much anything you put out for them. The only thing mine haven't devoured has been asparagus. Well, they were also afraid of a cantaloupe I put in their run until one of them got "brave" enough to give it a go!
I have a question. I have always been told to use SHELLED sunflower seeds to feed the birds because the shells can be toxic and I don't want my silly dogs eating the shells under the feeder. Is this a problem with chickens? Up until now, I've been feeding my girls shell less sunflower but if I...
OMG!! this is just a classic! On another note, if you can get away from your chickens, I saw someone running a 1/2 marathon in them just a week ago! I'm interested to hear what you think of them but in the mean time, I think I'll stick with my New Balance running shoes! Good luck!
Met with the surgeon today and really liked him. He's saying I need one side or lobe removed right now. Best case, that's it. Worst case, it's cancer and I have to go back to have the rest removed and then go for more treatment. I'm going with best case right now. Have to wait for his nurse to...
