Hi, I'm new to BYC and looking for some hatching eggs. I'm looking for some genetic hackle chicken eggs like the ones that were offered by fly fisher last year. I talked to him earlier this year and he didn't have any eggs available. Just wondering if anyone on this site bought any of his eggs...
I candled and checked air cells at day 10 and they appeared to be the right size. I don't like to handle the eggs too much, so I haven't candled since then. I'm currently at day 20 and have increased the humidity to 67% for lockdown. Do you know of any other signs of too much humidity other than...
Oh, I just saw that you guys were mentioning about day counting. I set my eggs late in the evening and have been calling the next day, Day 1. Is that the template you have been following.?
Congrats on the start of your hatch, hope all goes well. I'm also on day 20 as you were when you started this thread, and I'm not seeing any signs of movement either. Hoping to see a good hatch on day 21 as it seems you are.
A lot of academic institutes print material that says that they suggest keeping the humidity around 60% for the first 18 days. I tried to keep mine around 45%, but it seems like so many people post different numbers.
I also purchased a new Brinsea Octagon eco 20 this spring and my temperature also appeared to be preset too high. Mine seemed to be initially set to 100.5 and I turned it down before setting eggs.
Just to kindof modify my last statement, I realize that the high humidity helps to keep everything from becoming a sticky mess, but how is this higher humidity obtained in nature.
And I've heard that the egg turning is most important when the eggs are still developing their veins during the first half of the hatch. But I'm no expert.
