I had been using (2)55 gallon barrels to store feed, but while remodeling my coop recently I have discovered that that the weight has caused some unwanted settling. I like to keep at least one of the barrels full, approx. 250-300lbs, so I am not running to the feed store every week. What is...
I can get feed through my local co-op, and have in the past. I'm starting over this year and am curious if the pellet feed from TSC, FFH or that type of place would be a better option. The co-op feed looks sort of like cornmeal, I've asked before and have been told that it's all natural and...
I'm currently remodeling my coop (hoping to finish before chicks in mid-April), I used to have ladder style roosting but am planning to change to one height with dropping boards underneath for easier clean-up. I have a 12×16 shed converted to my coop, 12×12 is chicken space. 4×12 is storage...
Nice work splitting and stacking your firewood and making your pallet path, it looks like a great place to be!
Does anyone in Michigan raise Buckeye chickens? I've been reading about them a lot lately and I think they would be fun to raise. I'd like to get some chicks this spring, maybe also a...
So far I've been crossing the BLRW hen with the SLW roo, and line crossing a couple times, then adding the GLW hen in ( all on the chicken calculator). It's all very interesting to me.
I was incubating eggs a couple years ago (Black Australorp) from my own hens. The first couple clutches I had that summer had horrible hatch rates (less than %50), so I did some research and decided to try something different. I put all the eggs into the cardboard-ish cartons and sprayed them...
Thanks for all the information! I've been working through different combinations with the genetics calculator, I'm really interested in getting a variety of Wyandottes and crossing them.
Thoughts?
I'm curious, and don't understand the genetics but am really intrigued. Would a gold laced Wyandotte roo cross with a silver laced Wyandotte hen (or GLW hen x SLW roo) result in a blue laced red ?
Where might an individual find this genetic information
Thanks!
Thank you everyone for direction in my chicken conundrum! I have another questions for my Michigan peeps...:D. Which hatchery do you use or prefer. I was thinking Meyer, since it's closer but i've never ordered through the mail, just our local feed co-op, TSC and Family Farm & Home.
Thanks!
I've had chickens over the past 4 years, but currently I do not have any. I'd like to start another flock, but something that will tolerate the Michigan winters. It would be great if I could get some chicks or hatching eggs from someone close. I live in southwest lower Michigan. I've heard...
I'm new to chickens and so far we've done pretty well, we moved them to their coop yesterday, they're about 8 weeks old, and after an hour or so I checked on them and two were dead. They had a chicken pile in one corner of the coop and I think that maybe those two were smothered. Is this...
