So sometime last evening before shut in 4 chickens went missing. When I went calling one came out of the hedgerow. I sound a few feathers from one other. 2 have just vanished, no signs. Thoughts on what might have done this?
so i have a chick (about 12 weeks) who was limping a little about 4 days ago. checked over saw nothing. the next night she was beginning to seem lethargic. so i brought her in. by the next morning she could not stand on her own. she is bright , normal breathing but cannot stand. seems off...
ok, have some chickens im trying to figure out sex/breed. my thoughts in order:
black roo Australorp
cochin roo
sussex hen
sussex or welsummer roo (all three shots same bird)
light sussex hen
thanks for the help
I came home in the middle of the day and found 8 chickens gone. So far I have found 3, dead in the long grass (spread out, not all together). No obvious wounds on two, the third is a little chewed on but not eaten. Still looking for the others. Ideas? Dog, Fox, something else. I free range...
thanks, kind of looking for a little of this, a little of that wanting to get a feel for the breeds i will like best. and yes, they will send a letter by mail. you could always call or email them to check in i guess, it took a couple of weeks before i got my confirmation letter
i am not interested in how they cull the birds at most hatcheries. when i cull the roosters they will be handled as humanly as possible and then they will be used by our family as food.
opinions on these hatcheries please, The Poultry Hatchery, Valley Hatchery, and Nature Berry Farm. I am trying to find a no-kill hatchery, located closer to me (i am in NY State). If you have used one of these please let me know how it went. I currently use Sand Hill Preservation. TIA
