    The pullets in question. I did not add the rest of red stars, cuckoo maran or light brahma as I believe they lay darker eggs.

    That's what I was thinking as the buff was singing and my barred rock about a week ago her comb turned bright red. I don't have any photos and they are tucked in for the night.

    Just for giggles. I have 12 girls consisting of 5 red stars, 2 buff orpingtons, 2 speckled Sussex, 1 light brahma, 1 barred rock and 1 cuckoo maran. 2 of my red stars started laying the 4th.     I always assumed my jersey was the dominant one as he's vocal, mates the girls, etc. However my quiet laid back brahma does intervene sometimes and will run up to the jersey and face off with him and it's always the jersey that walks away first.

    That's where my problem is. My jersey is 50/50 with the girls. He will wait outside the coop until the majority if not all are in for the night and half the girls will follow him around during the day. However he won't allow any to eat with him and chases and mates way to often to where they run...

    We are not wanting fertile eggs for hatching. Just want eggs for eating. We got a roo (plus one "girl" was a boy) just for added protection and we enjoy having a roo around. Were I'm torn is I don't want a roo that will stress the hell out of my girls. However I don't want to rehome the jersey...

    Hi all, I have 14 hens and 2 roosters that are 17 weeks old. We are looking into giving a friend one of our roosters and I was wondering if anyone knew if it would effect our hens at all? We just got our first eggs today and he has been mating a few of the girls.
