Just for giggles. I have 12 girls consisting of 5 red stars, 2 buff orpingtons, 2 speckled Sussex, 1 light brahma, 1 barred rock and 1 cuckoo maran. 2 of my red stars started laying the 4th. Today we caught a buff doing the egg song and a few hours later we found these two eggs. Any ideas who they came from? I'm assuming one is from the buff that was singing. Our girls are all 18weeks as of yesterday.

Second photo is for color comparison to my red star eggs.

Pictures of your pullet might help as far as comb development to determine any suspects. Could be the buff and potentially the barred rock.

That's what I was thinking as the buff was singing and my barred rock about a week ago her comb turned bright red. I don't have any photos and they are tucked in for the night.

I think I'm going to just watch them to try and see if I catch who's laying as curiosity is getting the best of me.

The bright red comb usually means they are laying or close to it. I am always curious too.

That's what I've been telling the hubby. I was thrown off by the buff today though with her singing. She doesn't have much of a comb and it's not all that pink. She seems young to me as well. I've only had red stars/golden comets in the past so differant breeds are all new to me. Definitely going to keep an eye out as guessing whose laying always gets the best of me. Lol

Sometimes they practice the song, and sometimes they just seem to like carrying on over nothing. I have run out to my shed many times in the past to see who's singing. There's a lot of fakers singing the song, it will drive you bananas.

The pullets in question. I did not add the rest of red stars, cuckoo maran or light brahma as I believe they lay darker eggs.

The barred rock is probably laying. The bottom Orpington looks closer, but I don't think she's laying yet. I think the egg on the right in your first photo is from the rock, and the one on the left is a bit odd looking, so I'm wondering if it's from one of your Stars with improper coloring, otherwise the Sussex looks like she could be laying too, so it could be hers. Just all guesses based on your pictures.
