"Don't count your chickens before they're hatched," the old saving goes. True, you can't be sure any given egg will produce a live chick ... but you can make a pretty good guess at the hypothetical bird's sex before the smallest crack appears in its shell. The method is...
Does anyone know where any of this research may be located? What parameters were followed and their results?
I don't have much of anything else to do until spring.

I know that it is very unlikely but has anyone ever tried to see if this would work?
Is there any other things like types of feed, minerals, vitamins or other home made substances that might influence sex of embryo? Just curious about possibilities.
Was thinking of trying some experiments this...
Hi All
I was watching a show about reptiles and the sex of babies several varieties of reptiles and birds is determined by temp. I was wondering if anyone has tried this with chickens by using lower temps or higher temps at the critical stage to see if there is any difference in percentage of...
Australorp 17w2d. Went to check on their water at about 9am, saw a pullet in the coop trying to get a SOFTBALL under her. She then started to gather some feathers to put around her. She was fussing like crazy. I figured that she was just practicing. Checked later and there was an egg. I didn't...
Grandson really likes it when the roosters crow, we have 3. He tries to copy them and sounds like a very young roo when they first start to crow. He is getting better. When they hear him all the roosters and chicks come a running. I don't know if they think he's a rooster or they just want...
My grandson 4y asked me today when the chickens will start singing.
We have been feeding the chickens songbird feed, as a treat every afternoon. Hence the question. I told him that he just has to listen to them very carefully, and he will hear them singing. They make beautiful music, especially...
I have had chickens and rabbits together for several years (both living in chicken coop) no problems to date. Though some of the baby chicks will mistake a rabbit for their mother. They snuggle under the rabbit for warmth.
Was wondering about causes of molting. Temp change, stress, change in food, time of year, breed etc.
Do all chickens in flock molt at about the same time?
Duration for molt. What factors are involved in duration.
thanks
I have mostly Silver Laced Wyandottes. They free range, and I just want to keep them away form my mother. They seem to have a preferance for her flower beds.
I know 6' won't stop them. How about 8' or 10"?
How high does a fence need to be keep birds from flying over?
My mother (who lives next door) does not want birds in her yard. She complains about the birds getting into her flower beds and the poo she always manages to step in, shes 83 years old and doesn't see the poo until its to late.
Have been using the DLM for many years w/very good results. We use grass clippings w/lime. We only clean out the hen house in the spring, leaving a few inches of old litter. We store the unused (dried) grass under a tarp for winter use.
