I use plastic band from R. Burkey. They just slip around the leg and are numbered and color coded. They definitely help keep track of pedigree. I also use toe punch marking on some to keep track of lineage.

Substitute automobile Starter fluid. It is ether. It works fine . Put the trap and coon down in a large garbage can. Saturate a rag with starter fluid and drop it in the garbage can. Put the lid back on and seal for 10 minutes or so. It works well and is humane.
I will kill a varmint...
If it's canker you can treat it with copper sulfate. 1/4tsp crystals per gallon. CS is a good anti-fungal but I don't know what the emergency/ drench dose is if it is different from normal. Maybe someone else can chime in. Pics would help.
Remember they are basically sub-Saharan in origin so they are from a much drier climate than most of the US. The morning dew is tough on the keets. They definitey don't do well. A wet keet is a dead keet.

My wife's are stupid. They will walk to the road and stand there waiting for a car to come along so they can jump out in front of it. We had to pen what was left of the flock.
I had 4 disappear one time a few years ago. I was up at a neighbors house visiting some time later and the four came up at feeding time. They were so proud of their guineas that I didn't have the heart to tell them they were mine. "Yep, that is strange them just wondering up like that."
Blackhead can be prevented by using 1/4 copper sulfate per 1 gallon water. It can be treated with Flagyl, metronizadole, if you catch it early enough. With these two things in mind I have raised them together for several years with no problems with blackhead. So far I have not had to treat with...
Use a Dremel tool with a cut-off blade. It cauterizes the end of the spur and it will not grow back. There is no bleeding this way. Be sure to wear eye protection if you do. The blade can break and at 25,000 rpm and do serious injury.
Eprinex still works on most internal fowl parasites along with mites that suck blood. It has lost much of its zing for the beef industry. The "white wormers" like Valbazen and Safe-Guard, albenzadole and fenbenzadole, are more effective and less toxic to the host. They do require oral dosing...
The new ones need to be quarentined to prevent any disease or parasite that they may have from being spread to your existing flock. During this quarantine make sure that your free-rangers can't get close to them. I usually worm and treat for coocidia during this time also just to make sure we...
fc,
Your wife did a great job. You commented that she had never fired the G33 before. Remember this if you cross her! Next time it might be easier to S,S,S rather than open yourself and your wife up to the criticism of hand-wringing do-gooders.

You may or may not have seen any. The worms don't live free swimming in the stomach. They are attached to various parts of the walls of the digestive track. They live there sucking blood from the host. It is usually an accident if you actually see one that has detached itself.
You can use a syringe without a needle. Dosage is 1/2cc for standard size chickens and 1/4cc for smaller chickens/bantams. Re-dose again 10 days later to kill larva hatched from eggs since the initial dosing.
That's straight from speckledhen herself.
I prefer whole grains to make up scratch. You can buy them at the feed store where you by your chicken feed. Popcorn costs too much. Just buy whole feed corn. Chopped corn looses what little nutritional value it has too quickly unless fed soon. Looking at your signature line says that shouldn't...
