I have the opportunity to get a bunch of free bantam roosters that are 11 weeks old. I'm talking like 100+. I feed my dogs a raw food diet and think this would be the perfect opportunity to put a bunch of meat in the freezer for them. I don't want to pluck, so I will be freezing them with their...
I was asked for an update in my red rangers.
All of them are culled and dressed out over 6 lbs each. One was 8 lbs. They were amazingly huge. It took a little longer to grow than the parental units, but they were wonderful and friendly. I kept a single hen because I hand fed her during the...
Ive tried moving my broody 3 times. Each time, she stopped sitting on the eggs. She is broody again on sitting on eggs in a box almost 3 feet up. Not going to touch her this time. I'll wait and see. Let nature do its work.
P.S. The big rooster in the pic is a strait red ranger. I wanted to get a new daddy to breed so that this coming season would not be inbreeding.
Red Rangers are all 4 way crosses. You have 4 original breeds that are crossed to make offspring that are a mix of 2 breeds. Those are then crossed...
I don't think my assessment is going to be all that great.
I have been feeding everyone during some of the coldest parts of the year and they are still growing but at a MUCH slower rate than the original parental group because they are using it to stay warm rather than grow bigger. The roo's...
I picked up this big guy off craigslist. I hope to use him for next years breeding. Don't know how much he weighs.
As you can see, the offspring of the Red Ranger rooster and Red Ranger Hens are still not as big as I would like. They are 13 weeks.
Roo 1 = 5 lbs
Roo 2 = 4 lbs
Hen 1 = 4 lbs
Hens...
I don't use a mesh. I have a 6 drawer system. Every three weeks, I toss all the contents of the adult beetle drawer into a metal strainer so I can separate the beetles from the bran. I put the beetles into a new drawer with 4 cups of new wheat bran and either potatoes or carrots. The old bran...
My threat started with a Magpie getting in and eating eggs. I put up 2 fake owls on fence posts. I haven't seen the magpie again. Now, I have a falcon who hangs around my chicken coop. She/he is in my garden and perches on top of the chicken run fencing. I have found several eggs on the floor...
No improvement. I think she is just going to be like this. She stopped laying eggs, but its that time of year. I have her and my Delaware together and they seem to do just fine together.
10 weeks now. I think I will start weighing them to see how fast they are growing. I think their growth rate is a bit slower than their parents who were straight Red Rangers.
I raised 30 Red Rangers. I started processing at 12 weeks and the final batch was processed at 18 weeks. They were all wonderfully healthy (MINUS one had scissor beak), energetic, foraged, and the remaining chickens bred 7 little ones which are now 10 weeks old. They are not growing as fast as...
The red ones are my Red Ranger Cross Red Ranger. They are 9 weeks and almost as big as my standard hens.
I dont see a difference in them compared to the parents which were purchased from a hatchery. I was told that crossing the 4 way crosses would not result in anything close to what the...
I will add yogurt to her rations and see.
I am POSITIVE its not mereks..... she was not seperated from the entire flock, and has been with others (who would not pick on her). No one else is effected. I've been doing physical therapy with her for almost a month now, hoping she would get better...
Welie has not been injured to the best of my knowledge. She started maturing and possibly mounted by the rooster. Other than that, I cannot understand why she started walking like this.
Please, if anyone can tell me what is going on and how to correct it, I would be soooooo grateful!!!
