Please note that I said “tried to start petting her” which means her walking toward the flock, chattering, and stretching her arm out. She’s never actually touched this hen. She has however, touched our sweet Easter Egger hens very appropriately because we are always there to supervise and show...
Thank you everyone for your help! I think we’ve come to a decision that Petunia needs to go. I’d hate for Koralie to become afraid of chickens because of her, or much worse, to get hurt.
It’s not food related. Our chickens are fed from a self serve feeder in their run. The behavior only started when my daughter tried to start petting her. Thanks for your help though.
Actually, none of the aggressive behavior happens when food is involved. It’s just random and around the yard. She’s only given them treats two times and neither time was there aggression.
No, my daughter’s always with us outside. But we have a fairly big yard and she wanders around on her own and likes to walk up to chickens. Sometimes she’ll give them oats
Hi! I just wanted to see if any of you had some ideas for me about how to deal with a hen who’s being aggressive with our toddler. My little girl is only a year and half old, but she loves her chickens sooo much and loves to be involved in their care. Petunia is a Wyandotte hen who is the lowest...
Hi! I have a sweet little 4 week old Australorp who needs a new home. We live in town, so we aren’t able to keep roosters. We are in Lebanon, Oregon. (Pictured getting kisses from my daughter 😄)
These are definitely one of my top favorite breeds! They tend to have the silliest and sweetest personalities. I love the colored eggs, and they are reliable layers. My Easter Eggers don't love to be picked up and handled, but they love following me around the yard and sitting in the grass close...
My Orpington is the top hen in our flock and she is as sweet as they come when it comes to being in charge. She is literally like a dog stuck in a chicken's body. She loves to be picked up and carried around, and once she's on my lap, she's there to stay. She started laying extremely well (6...
I have one australorp, and she is such an awesome chicken. She's never had health problems, is very heat tolerant, friendly to people, and is so beautiful. I definitely want to get more when I expand my flock some day.
We have:
Princess Buttercup - buff orp
Stormy - lavender EE
Crazy Daisy - EE
Rosie - Australorp
Twinkle - Silver laced orp
We've also had Oprah, Sweet Pea (who became Sweet Peter), Bitsy (silkie) and Yolo (Polish)
I'm sure it's too young to tell, but should I be worried that this is a cockerel based on the comb
development. This chick is about 4 weeks old
Also, no cockerel behavior at all
