Help! Chicken not developed/umblicial cord attached

Thank you so much!! Apologies for the late reply, but we did this for a little while and he's now happy and healthy along with his siblings :) The original chick this thread was about is doing great too! We only had one loss (which was a chick that was almost fully developed but died in the egg...

Help! Chicken not developed/umblicial cord attached

Thank you so much for the tips! Unfortunately it seems we're having some bad luck this hatch, as the next egg to hatch had stopped in the middle of zipping for hours and it looked like the membrane was stuck to it. He was pushing hard but the membrane just kept stretching and he couldn't get...

Help! Chicken not developed/umblicial cord attached

Thank you!! The other two chicks that had hatched and were pecking at him were dry so we moved them to the brooder with their firstborn sibling now, and we have the injured chick in this for now https://i.imgur.com/7KXjV4c.png The prolapsed looking part on his bum also seems to have gone in now...

Help! Chicken not developed/umblicial cord attached

Thank you!! I feel so bad especially since this is the chick I would talk to when it stuck its little beak out of the pipped hole and it would cheep back at me, haha. I was sooo excited to see him finally hatching because I was getting worried but now I wish he'd stayed in there a little longer...

Help! Chicken not developed/umblicial cord attached

This guy was the second chick to pop but took 24 hours to zip, now he's hatched and there's a lot of runny yolk around his egg and a long yolky string with a red vein through it attached to his bum. Something seems to be coming out of its bum and its bleeding a bit so I'm worried it's...

What breed do these black chickens look like?

Thank you both! :) They definitely do seem like Jersey Giants! They were slower growing than the other chicks, so that would make sense.

What breed do these black chickens look like?

So I got these guys from TSC in April, and I had called the hatchery they came from (Townline) to ask what breed they could be, but they weren't able to help me much. Now that they're older, can anyone tell? Here's what they looked like as chicks, with a bit of white on their tummies:

    Agh! Fed treats without grit!

That's what I thought might happen! I'll definitely keep her from doing that, then. I think our bin is actually a similar type, since she called it a "Christmas" bin, haha. I'm excited to get these girls (and guys, possibly) into their new brooder :) Right now they're constantly stepping over...

    Graduation day!

That looks great! What are you using for your chicken cam and how did you set it up? I need one of those, haha!

    Agh! Fed treats without grit!

Thanks! I went out and got some Purina medicated feed today, as well as some grit, so they should be good to go now :D How slowly should I be transitioning them to the medicated one? And since we have a lot of the nonmedicated left, my mom actually wants to keep the two mixed, but I'm not so...

    Agh! Fed treats without grit!

Slightly offtopic question, but is there anything I can give to prevent coccidiosis? They're not on medicated feed right now (although I do want to switch to that). Is Corid only given to treat already existing cases or is it used as a preventative as well?

    Agh! Fed treats without grit!

Phew, that's good to hear! Thanks for the quick response :) I think scattering is what I'll do with mine too then, it'll give them something to do while they're in there! It was just such a forehead-slapping moment for me because I'm usually so adamant about being careful, and making sure...

Unsure of Chick Ages and Temp Needs

Ohh, thank you! :) I will definitely look into a heating pad! That sounds a lot less stressful than the lamp.

    Agh! Fed treats without grit!

Well, I just made a mistake that may end up being nothing, but has me worried :/ I wanted to introduce the chicks to their babycake treat, so I took a small amount and crumbled it in my hand. One or two pecked at it for a second but none showed much interest yet, so I just scattered that bit...

Unsure of Chick Ages and Temp Needs

Thank you very much for your help! Should I be keeping their temp at around 90, then? Sorry about the redness, here are better pics: The smallest The size most of them are The biggest! His pic is still red because I didn't feel comfortable lifting him too far with only one hand, but...

Unsure of Chick Ages and Temp Needs

Hi all! This is my first time raising baby chicks. We have 12 from TSC that my mom bought yesterday. She either didn't get the right answer or remembered wrongly, but she was under the assumption that they were around four weeks. Well, I google imaged it, and they look more like two week olds...
