The six pack has been doing great this past week in their new house. I have been doing a lot of other stuff around the house that had been on the back burner... So no major progress on the hen house, but in the next week I'm going to build their run. I used a couple metal plant hangers...

Perfect! Thanks aart:) I'll admit I should have done more research and not had to ask questions like this.. But after 11 years of my wife wanting hens I surprised her one day and ordered the birds for her. Just been figuring it out as we go, but everyone's help here has been all we have...

Luckily I'm not in bear country nope!:) And that's a good bit of info on the coons! I've been living here 4 years, and did see a bobcat in the backyard on two different occasions:$ There is a road about 150yards behind the hen house that gets a lot of traffic/main route to the city, keeps...

Would make a good sauna, or an ice fishing shack hahah Through June July and August we see temperatures as high as 34degrees Celsius, and very humid heat being in the maritimes. Makeing it feel like 40 some days.

Got the door built, minus a few pieces of trim/casing and the upper part needs a window installed still. But progress none the less... I went into this telli myself i was gonna build a simple, efficient, cheap hen house and get on with other tasks.. But I'm to fussy/slow... And ya...

So I need you people of backyard chicken lands opinion.. The side shed roof that goes over the "to be built/installed" nesting boxes. Was an afterthought once I realized how much steel I roof in I had. So currently there is a decent gap between the wall and the roof on that side, I can...

Prior to building the windows, I angled the bottom plate of the window jam a bit with the chainsaw.. So worst case water gets in there, it should run out.

Ripped a few cedar boards with the skill saw and built a frame within the window jam. Then used silicone to stick the glass in from the inside, and a couple more cedar strips to hold the glass in place well. Still need to figure out how I'm going to do the trim on the outside... Shouldn't be...

Got the roof finished up yesterday:) The ridge cap needs to be fixed up a bit. But it's raining hard today! And their are no leaks :) I would have liked the roof to have hung over the gable ends a bit more... But it will be okay.

I managed to get the rest of the 2x6 up in the roof and strapped it with some rough milled random boards. I hope to get the strapping straightened out/ ends cut off tomorrow and screw the steel roof on before rain on the weekend. [/IMG][/IMG]

You can see all the cedar siding there in the left of that picture a bit. The plan is to start putting the siding on sides and back of the shed once the hen house has a roof on it. And all he shorts/ off cuts can be used for siding on the hen house. Should be a pretty fancy shack when...

Still wet and cold.. But with them birds growing like that I'm gonna have to carry on with construction none the less. Made a fire in the shed and started working away in there a bit, getting stuff cut to length and ready to go together.
