Probably a disorder unique to that particular bird... It would be difficult to know the cause without a necropsy and even then the cause may not be accurately determined...- jensen

I think you're doing great. What I meant to say before is that my quail do best when provided with fresh, cool water that is changed at least twice a day. This is just tap water and I don't do anything to make it cooler than it already is. The temp of the water obviously warms up as a... -

Someone I talked with who visited a Chinese zoo a few years ago said the goldens and amhersts he saw there were crosses. He even showed me some pictures and they were far from pure! I don't think he went to Chengdu Zoo. You mentioned offering F1 crosses of San Diego Zoo and "wild caught" stock...- jensen

Nice picture and a great start! As you go along, you'll probably not want to have your water right under the light bulb as the chicks will do best drinking cool water. Of course if the water doesn't get too warm then you're alright... Again, great job! -

Sorry to hear about your loss. I do think the mother will sense one is missing for a while but it will pass with time. Accidents happen and you shouldn't take it too hard. -

Quail are dying one by one each day
Chickman, I believe you said the deaths were occurring only during the night. This could indicate they are not receiving enough heat or too maybe too much and you might not realize it. It's a funny thing how conditions can change during longer periods where they are not being observed...
