Thanks, adrikeen :) That's how I feel, too.

    Help! Broody hen and hurricane!

She is outside, with her back to our porch and right by a few rose bushes. She doesn't have any covering over her. I could rig up a tarp to shield her, but I'm afraid there will still be moderate flooding. I assume that they are fertilized due to our very amorous rooster. She was VERY upset...

    Help! Broody hen and hurricane!

Hey everyone, Two weeks ago, we had a really bad storm and my favorite hen, Thelma, went missing. I searched and searched for her, but no luck. Figured a predator must have gotten her. Today, my mother-in-law was walking her dog (she's here as an evacuee of Florence), and her dog went...

Rooster too aggressive with hen(s), what to do?

Thank you. I'm definitely going to separate them right away, and then make the decision about who to choose - or if I should just get rid of them both. Or, we do have space - maybe they can start their own rooster flock!

Rooster too aggressive with hen(s), what to do?

Thank you, this is a lot of good insight. I hadn't thought about them needing to learn how to figure it all out. I do not necessarily want a rooster, and do not intend to hatch chicks anytime soon. If we culled them both, we would eat both of them. Our fenced in coop area is very large -...

Rooster too aggressive with hen(s), what to do?

I have seen these, and that's not a bad idea. I don't think they protect the comb, though? And this guy is literally causing her comb to bleed from how aggressive he is.

Rooster too aggressive with hen(s), what to do?

I don't really want any roosters - we got them straight run. I thought one rooster would be good as a protector, but I am perfectly fine not having any.

Rooster too aggressive with hen(s), what to do?

Hi all, I have 6 buff orpingtons - 2 of which are roosters. They are 4 months old, and the hens are not laying yet. I know having 2 roosters for 4 hens is a bad idea, and we are intending to cull one of the roosters. The roosters actually seem to get along fine together (one is very Alpha and...

Is this chick different from the others? (Red Rangers)

I know! Haha, I was really hoping we'd have more pullets than that! I'm thinking we'll keep the two pullets and the RIR - and I guess we'll be learning how to slaughter the rest of them :( I'm kind of bummed about it, but they're already fighting a bit, and they are a dual purpose breed after...

Is this chick different from the others? (Red Rangers)

Thank you!! Yeah...we've been calling him "Roo" for quite awhile now. I'm afraid that 4 of the 6 chicks are cockerels - as only two of them have light colored, small combs, and the rest have very pronounced and very red combs.

Is this chick different from the others? (Red Rangers)

Hi, all! We have six chicks, supposedly all Red Rangers. One of the chicks is significantly darker in color and smaller than the others (and has been since we got them at four days old). Her (or his?) attitude is also much different from the others. Very inquisitive, not scared of people or loud...
