My one year old girl was found inside the pen this morning. Has shown no signs of illness. She was fine yesterday. I do not know what could have happened. There was a tiny bit of bleeding from the nostrils. Maybe some kind of injury?
I have a female (pretty sure) one year old who has not yet laid eggs that I know of. She does not have the curl on the tail and she quacks. We had a drake but had to re-home him as they would both gang up on my white hens and rip their feathers out until raw. I also have added 2 female Muscovey...
I had one of my hens pass away the other day. Seemed very healthy and she was the largest and the boss hen in the flock. She came out of the pen went and sat in a pile of leaves like she was laying. A little while later she had died. 2 years old. I am wondering what could have caused this. We...
They are a year old. They are all doing well now. They have been on the vitamin crystals with electrolytes. Plus giving them the oregano and cinnamon oil more often now. Radio is back to her old self. I believe it was a damp issue with all the rain we had and, I did have peat moss in the pen...
I have been using the peat moss so I guess I will stop-glad i I came across this! I just had issues with 2 of my girls seemed like a respiratory issue. Will replace with something else. What about sand? Or top soil?
We lost one girl 2 days ago and now another has same symptoms. Walking slow away from the other chickens, went in nesting box tonight instead of on the perch with the rest. Not eating, runny poop. She does breath a little raspy so think it could be a respiratory infection? I went and bought some...
I chose names for their personalities. Radio Flyer-the small red because she was flying first as a chick and would ride on our shoulders. Then we have May, April, and Lucy.
We lost Miss Opal this morning. I was hoping the bath would help. She seemed to enjoy it and perked up a little bit after the blow dry. I wish I knew what happened to her. She was the largest of the flock and has been very healthy looking up to a couple days ago. I have another question-if their...
One of our girls seems to not be feeling well. Not wanting to come out of the pen and would not even eat live crickets when offered to her today. I noticed when she finally came out yesterday she stayed away from the others by herself and just walked around slowly.
Not sure if this is being...
It's great getting new ideas from the replies. This will be my chicks first summer and it will be upper 90's tomorrow :o(
I froze watermelon halves and set one out for them. They loved it and almost ate it all over a few hours. I also add ice to their water feeder.
We have a good size protected pen attached to the coop. I am nervous about trying to let them free range. They are starting to try and come out when we open and close the pen door. They seem very anxious to see if the grass is greener on the other side :o)
We have plenty of space for them to...
The run or pen-we have attached to the coop a fenced pen that is protected with fencing on all sides and top. The floor is grass and dirt. What is best method for cleaning up the poop? Tried raking but that does not seem to get most of it. I also pick up with gloves. Thinking about changing to...
