I got Sonja a week ago with two other chicks and she seemed fine, but she seems to have problems with one or both legs..
but I really think it is the right leg. They are in a cage with a wooden floor and shavings. It isn't spraddled; it seems she can't stand still too long, or she sits down...
I have lost three of my chickens in the past two months....they are all just turning 5 months.
I sent my last one, Snowball, my Rhode Island White to the UCDavis Lab for a necrospy, and the results came back: Marek's Disease.
I have one that is ill now..I will cull her..and have 11 left, all...
Oh, I am sorry...I just lost Snowball, my Rhode Island Red!! I have sent her off to UC Davis for a necropsy.
This is my second loss in a week...it is heartbreaking!!
I posted a week ago...when my Sicilian Buttercup pullet was sick. She died, and Saturday my Rhode Island White, Snowball, 4 months old came down with something similliar...respitory for sure. On Tuesday she died. I called UCDavis and overnighted

We have Scrub Jays in Northern California...and this summer
they started eating my chicken eggs!! I thought it was one of my
hens, and started isolating them...to find out WHO,with no success, but then
I noticed Jays flying in the coop...sure enough it WAS JAYS! Here I was blaming my ladies...
Thank you all!
I love my chickens and it is hard when you lose one!! But, I have learned from
this experience, and hopefully will be better a better chicken mama!!
Thank you for your help.
My beloved SophieBC died this morning. Should I take her to the Vet for an
autopsy? Can you vacinate older....5 months chickens for Mareks?
Thank you for your kinds words and ESPECIALLY your prayers.
I too have read that Mareks can be survived but the chick will be a carrier?
Does that mean that any new chicks that come in will be infected? Do I keep
her, if she survives, separated from all others?
Oh gosh..I am sorry for your...
I have been reading a lot about Mareks and I am still confused. I had a
young pullet...about 3 months old that I am pretty sure had Mareks. I separated her from the rest of the flock...13 others about the same age. All was well,
until a few days ago, my almost 5 month old Buttercup pullet...
Drat! I was hoping at least one of them was a female,
they seem so different. Thank you for your replies..
I am learning, and I am grateful for Backyards!!

I have two Leghorns crosses...Leghorn mom, Buttercup Dad.
The one (on left) with the straight tail seems a little more aggressive, the feathers are more developed, and it's bigger.
Is this a female?
Thank you
I just posted about my EE. I was told it was an orpington...
but he has since grown muffs...has a pea comb(?) I didn't know there were white EEs
Here is a picture of him when he was small.
I am ok with another Roo, but I guess it is the same problem a lot of us have.. this is my 4th roo. I have Buttercup Rooster,
and three cockerels..Eddy, a Japanese Batam..I think.
He was in the same group as the white EE...he is very short,
black tail straight up...cute little guy...tries to...
Well, I am beside myself with excitement....I actually
got the picture in the post!!! This place is so awesome!!
I thought it was a White Americaunana crossed with?
I noticed that he
is not pure white...kind of has a slight yellow tinge at tips of
his feathers.
