    Yes, true! Our girls have picked-clean our turkey and chicken carcasses after a family dinner. They need the protein. We get these massive Jerusalem Crickets on our property, and the girls will fight over them, chasing each other everywhere to try to steal it from the other hen.

    egg yolk peritonitis?

    How much tetracycline and for how long did you treat your hen? I think one of mine has similar. I examined her internally this AM and she doesn't have an impacted egg - no worms - no external signs - so I'm thinking bacterial infection. Thank you! Linda

    Are some breeds really noisier than others?

    So far, my RIR and Ameraucanas are the biggest loudmouths. My RIR even scared off a raccoon attacker with her mouth. I've had gold and silver wyandottes and they are very quiet. I don't recall my other breeds, but I think they were fairly quiet (PBRs, Buff Orpington).

    Celery ?

    I ran a bunch of celery and carrots through the grating disc of my cuisinart this morning and my 8-week old girls chowed it down. I worry about giving them anything to stringy that might get impacted in their crops - so I grate things like this.
