Is this their first winter? My peafowl freaked out with the snow since this was their true first winter out since they were only babies last winter and were inside. My peahen was on the roof for 4 nights in below freezing temps with heavy snow showers. Would not come down until I cleared a patch...
She FINALLY flew in barn this morning . 3 days on roof in freezing snowy temps. Eating warm feed and drinking water w/ electrolytes. She looks pretty good, thank God!!!!!
I'm not sure what to do. Not sure what happened but my peahen won't come down from roof and it is snowy and in teens. Hasn't eaten in 2 days and no water. My peacock is calling her to come into the barn but she won't have it. She appears healthy! Is she trying to lay eggs?
Hello, I live in Michigan and as you can imagine, it gets pretty cold. I have a freeranging peacock and hen who I close up in the barn at night . There is an evil rumor of a polar vortex (cold as hell) winter that may hit us. I could put in a heating bulb but they roost in the rafters at night...
I know it comes with s risk but The days are pretty safe for them . They stick close and my Chessie dogs ( who are ironically bird hunting dogs) are out with them a lot and they are big protectors . Fully trust our dogs with them. They know they are family . As a matter of fact I walk in garage...
p.s I will open barn doors in morning so they can still spend the day outside , if you call
Our garage outside. I have a huge mirror in there and they love to stare at themselves all
Day . I even bought a mirror for our back porch and have cardboard roosting boxes in front of it so they have...
If they roasted in a tree I would feel better, but am just very uncomfortable with them on the roof out in open. Im terrified of an eagle or owl swooping down on them. I started to just lock them up in the barn at night and they can roost in the rafters( that's where I feed them so I don't have...
My peahen and peacock have been freeranging for 4 months. Things are going very smooth. They stick close to the house and either spend their days in the fence row , front porch , the garage or their barn . They usually have roost in the rafters of barn (where we want them) but now here's the...
Panacur 50mg 10% paste . 0.5 cc administered today . ( no detected worms in poop)
I was told to administer twice a year. Next dose in fall. The peafowl breeder is very professional. But, I am reading 3-5 days in a row. They are contained but will be free ranged in a few days .
Also he told...
Hi. How do I get my hands on dewormer meds? My vet wants me to bring them in to get a weight. I was recommended to administer 1cc of panacur but don't even know how to get it
One year olds and they will be herded back in pen and my dog is very familiar with birds walking around , pet turkeys and chickens. I'm not worried in the least. I take it you aren't a free ranger. We have perfect environment for free ranging.
Hi. I have had my peacock and peahen for a month now. I modified a horse stall as a pen with a doggie door to an outside pen. Today I opened up the horse stall door to give them full access of the barn and loft. They loved it. So I am thinking 2-4 weeks to get used to the place before I open up...
Thank you so much for your reply . Very insightful and looks like I have the bases covered based on your answer of 'enough room issues.' I think it was a food issue.. Thankfully. @Garden Peas .. You rock
I'm new to peacocks and just introduced a peahen to my peacock. When I visited them today , I threw out a sugar snap pea and he rushed over to eat it and took one away from her after she dropped it and then I see him making pecking jabs at her head. I also see some of her small fluffy feathers...
