6 ducklings so far, and at least 3 more have pipped! I had to open the incubator, they were all wedged between the other eggs and the lid. I threw a warm wet sponge in when I opened it, so hopefully no damage was done.
So far the count is 11 quail, and one Polish chick that is 2 days early. There were 2 quail dead in the incubator and trampled so I couldn't tell why they didn't make it.
But aren't they adorable!!
Were they shipped or local?
50% is a good rate for shipped eggs. They might have been fertile but damaged in transit so they never developed.
Everyone I've ever bought eggs from has a disclaimer.
Quails and chickens are in lockdown, ducks still have a week to go.
And I have some ebay eggs split between my broody Silkie and my brinsea.
Yes, I have three different incubators going. I have a problem. Lol
But in my defense I haven't hatched anything since October. :)
I'm at day 14 with my quail eggs and I put them in lockdown! But...
When I took them out of the turners I I never plugged it in!!! So they have never turned. How bad is that? I can't candle them, they are too tiny and too spotted to see anything through, but I can tell a weight difference, so I...
I've ordered from Stromberg 3 times now. They shipped on Tuesday and were here at 6:30 Thursday morning. We are a rural post office, so most things take an extra day- but the chicks didn't! And they called me a 6:30 am! Which I believe is when thier trucks come in.
Hatching in my classroom is what got me hooked on hatching last year! (I teach first)
I used a medium sized clear tote, on a table for best viewing for my littles. I used an Eco Glow brooder, so as not to have the problems with a heat lamp. I kept the lid on, but cracked so they got air, but...
Careful! That is how I got started!
What grade?
I teach first and my kids LOVED it! I can't wait to do it again this year. I believe we do eggs in April. :)
my Silkie hen went broody earlier this week, so I might have more than one hatch this month!!
Only problem, it is below freezing outside, about 20. And her nest isn't fully enclosed- will she be okay until it warms up again? She did get up for fresh water when I went out and fed and watered.
I'm closer to Odessa so we haven't had that low of temperature. We did have a few hard freezes, I just made sure everyone had fresh hay, plenty of water, and locked the chickens in the enclosed run (a 10x10 dog kennel with roosts and house if they wanted it) so they would *have to* snuggle...
The last few days when feeding I've noticed my Silkie sitting on her eggs, and pecked at me when I've tried to move her. My first broody! Only problem... No rooster. So I did what any sane person would do, I bid on some eggs on eBay to put underneath her. I'm in West Texas so temperatures aren't...
