Just wanted to post and update. 1 of our 2 Townline EEs have started laying! Pearl (the gray one) laid this tiny beautiful blue egg yesterday (22 weeks). She had been squatting for about 2 weeks before she laid. Peggy (the black one) just started squatting yesterday, so we should have eggs...
Anybody have any updates for the Easter Eggers from Townline that are now laying? I am thinking about getting some from my local Family Farm and Home Store and curious about the looks of the hens and the colors of the eggs....Also, about how many eggs are you getting/week from each bird and how...
First egg from our pullets that hatched at the end of March! The bigger egg is from our Leghorn that lays daily. The smaller egg is from one of the pretty ladies here: Nancy (top right), Audrey (bottom left) or Tweety (bottom right). My money is on Tweety. Her comb is redder than the others...
We have had the new layer for 2-3 weeks. We were told she is a year, not sure exactly. Could she be egg-bound? I read something about this..?
Will be patient and give her time to adjust.
Thanks for your input!
She is a year old hen we inherited from a friend. His most consistent (daily) layer. Our other chickens are 3 months old and not laying yet. New hen, Frenchy, came to our flock and laid eggs for the first 5 days or so. Then she laid a soft shelled egg and we realized we were feeding the...
We have 1 hen that is of laying age and was laying daily. She kept laying in the back corner of the coop, so we got some of the 'decoy' eggs and put them in the next box in hopes of getting her to lay in there. Day 1 she laid the egg closer to the next box, but still in the coop floor. Day 2...
Thanks everyone for the advice. We put out the oyster shells and in 3 days shes is back to her egg-laying ways. She even laid this MONSTER egg after not laying for a couple days!
I was going to post something similar. It is safe to put out a tray of oyster shells for the older ones if there are younger ones mixed in? I know too much calcium is bad for the kidneys of the younger chickens - but as long as the feed doesn't have the extra calcium and it's put out...
Just got our first chickens at the beginning of April - 2 Rhode Island Reds and 2 Amberlinks. We are pretty sure one of the RIRs is a male (they were all supposed to be pullets). They are 7-8 weeks old now, fully feathered and enjoying their coop and run in our backyard. I have already gotten...
His clucks definitely sound different than the other hens, much louder and flatter...We live in the city, so no roosters allowed. Just trying to figure out how long we can keep him around for before he starts disturbing the neighbors. Thanks everyone for the help!
All of these were supposed to be pullets, they are 6-7 weeks old in the photo. Thinking one of them is not like the others...do we have a cockerel? Thanks!
