Chick 1 looks like a pullet as my rooster had much bigger comb at that age and he is an olive egger. Chick 2 is questionable. I'm leaning rooster. Both are definitely Olive Egger as mine look like this.
My Olive Egger had about the same size comb a few weeks ago at 10weeks. I thought for sure a roo but now I'm changing my mind to pullet. Your's looks similar.
I only use the large wood shavings. You could also just lay newspaper down for awhile until this resolves itself. We used that for 18 years growing up and never had issues. I also keep a bottle of hibiclens (at target and Walgreens) in case of poopy butt. I just dab their bottoms in warm water...

I love my little Olive Egger just worried he is a roo. My neighbors (even though far away are not fans of roo sounds. I already think he is a roo based on his fighsty attitude, comb and upright stance? Maybe I'm wrong?
So this teenager came from an assortment of eggs for my kinder class. Being I live in the country I took this roo/hen home as I can have a rooster. Not sure about it's breed or gender as I have only had RIR. Maybe speckled Sussex? Thank you for any answers on this 6 week old mystery machine.
