Just wanted to share this picture I took today of my son and my chickens! Yes it's a boy, he's our fourth boy so my wife is picky about his hair since I've failed to give her any girls :-( I hope all is well with everyone!
I got another one today! I also cracked open the other one to see if it had a yolk or not and it does, a little one. Take a look and tell me what you think please.[/IMG]
I started out with an already laying flock of chickens. After purchasing them I decided I wanted more so I went to my local Tractor Supply and bought a couple black sex-link pullets. They're about 15 weeks or so now and I think one may have just laid its first egg. But the egg is really small so...
I bought this hen about a month ago with several others. The lady told me she and three others were Rhode Island Reds but I think she may have grabbed this one by mistake because she doesn't look like the others and she has an extra toe. I thought maybe she was a Dorking but her coloring is...
I'm hoping someone here can help. I have one hen that has what looks like might be an abcess or something on her chest. I first noticed it a month ago and it has steadily gotten bigger. At first I thought she had just lost a few feathers. Unfortunately she's one of eight birds I bought full...
First of all, my condolences to you and your family. But it is a beautiful example of the circle of life that your granddaughter will be born so close to your mother's birthday. So for second, congratulations to you and your family.
The 15 month old hens are: 1 Black Sex-link, 2 Rhode Island Reds, 1 Pullin (I think) and then 3 white ones with a few black feathers. I really can't remember what they are. The lady that sold them to me said but you know. The 2 chicks are Black Sex-link.
I just joined BYC last week and found this thread today. There are certainly a lot of people from Texas here. Anyway, just thought I'd say hi. I'm NW of San Antonio near Bandera.
Hi everyone, I was wondering if someone could help me determine the sex and breed of this bird. I bought 8 supposed 15 month old hens off a lady on Craig's list. I'm thinking she may have picked up a rooster or two by mistake. For one thing out of the 8 chickens I'm only getting about an average...
Thank you! That is a lot of helpful information! I noticed the cleats were a little too far spaced yesterday myself and plan on adding a few. It's definitely a working progress. I took the week off last week just to finish what I have done so far since I started losing chicks to raccoon's Friday...
Thank you! I've had a few other people tell me to bury chicken wire around the edges I just haven't got the chance to yet. I've placed rocks around it in spots there's a noticeable gap between the ground and running boards. I will definitely take your advice though. I started with 12 chicks and...
There are some pretty awesome pictures of coops here. I just recently decided to try my hand in raising chickens and unfortunately did very little research before hand. I've had a few disasters and losses (raccoons) but I've learned a lot in a short time especially since I found this website. My...
