At six weeks I'm more inclined to say the black frizzle is probably a cockerel then. Even though the comb is not fully red yet, it still is redder than a pullet at this age.
I'm not good at sexing silkies so I couldn't tell you but I think the second one is also a pullet depending on the age since the comb is red but also pale in some spots. How old is the second one?
I also find misting helps a lot when it is really hot. I spray their body, legs and under their wings. Might be worth it to try and cool her down since her wings are handing down. Do you have electrolytes in the water as well? If not I'd add it in there too. Giving her some liquid vitamins like...
There are select breeds in which they have sex specific colouring. These breeds, or mixes in some cases, are called either sex-links or auto-sexing breeds. Sex-links include Red sex links and black sex links. Barred rocks are a common auto-sexing breed due to the difference in feather patterns...
When they are young, the crop is translucent and can look empty. It is also more movable than an adult bird's crop. It might look empty too even if it isn't. The crop will feel like air because it can be filled with air. 99% of the time an air bubble on a chick is in fact their crop. Now, a 1...
They are still wary and cautious. Integration is stressful and scary to them so they are trying to get as close as possible to where the kennel was as that was a safe space for them.
If the embryo is still moving around itself then it is still viable. If it was me I'd stick it back under your hen and check back in a few days if there are any further development. How hot is it in your house?
Depending on how small the pellets are I would be worried they may try and eat it. You can test it out and see if they are eating it or not via monitoring them. Regarding the shavings, I've found the finer flakes are dustier than the regular flakes in case that is what you are using.
That's my hope. He is slightly laid back but has been testing my older hens to my annoyance. He was tormenting my blind hen for a couple days but has chilled out a lot. I'm hoping with two established and dominant roosters that he will maybe be more docile but who knows. As long as he is good...
He's turning 4 months next week. Absolutely. I know his final behaviour is not likely to materialize right now but I want to get a feel for other peoples' experiences with RIR roosters. My older two were stable for a while then one got more aggressive while the other only got aggressive this...
Hi! In my last order I received a cockerel on accident. I was not planning on getting one originally as I've got two roosters already and 18 hens now. However, he is starting to grow on me and I was wondering how RIR rooster temperaments generally are.
Obviously I do know that temperaments do...
A frazzle is a frizzy whose parents were both frizzies making it a frazzle as it has the two copies of the frizzle genes. It makes feathers more brittle and prone to breaking compared to a frizzle. In short, frizzle=one frizzle parent and frazzle=two frizzle parents.
