Howdy. My hens are about 3 years old. While I’ve never seen worms and they all seem relatively healthy, I assume they probably have some parasite load by now. I’ve notice the keel bone being a little more prominent in my Sussex hens, for one thing.

I’ve never used an actual de-wormer. Just ACV once a month and pumpkin/pumpkin seeds from time to time.

As they’re not laying now anyway, I’m thinking about worming them.

What do yall think? Should I work them? And what’s a good all purpose wormer? Fenbendazole?

Many thanks.

My one note about worming is if you want to do it more consistently then you need to switch up what you use to worm. This is so the worms/parasites don't develop a resistance to it. I personally don't deworm mine and they don't have any issues. I will only worm if I need to.

I only worm mine when I have confirmation that they have an infestation. Some worms is natural and not an issue so it is all about whether they really are infested or not. You can sometimes persuade a vet to do a fecal test for you - or learn to do one yourself.
I have only wormed once in 5 years.

What are you feeding them including any treats? Could some be bullied from eating enough? You may want to change them to flock raiser or all flock feed for the time being, and place some crushed oyster shell out in a separate pan for when they need to start laying. Some scrambled egg bits for a treat can help add more protein. The easiest oral wormer to use if albendazole 0.5 ml orally and repeated in 10 days. It gets all worms except tapeworms. Here is where to find it:

Fenbendazole 10% gets the same types of worms when used 0.23 ml per pound orally for 5 consecutive days. You can use Aquasol a weaker version of fenbendazole that can be put into water for 2 days, but it only gets roundworms.
