From what I've read they were designed to simply lay eggs. They can't reproduce so when they die, you have to buy more. Makes sense they wouldn't want them long lived. They weren't made by breeding two chickens. They are genetically designed.
6 years ago, my son had an egg hatch in his lap. We still have that old black rooster. We also now have chickens, ducks, geese guineas, Muscovy, and emus. Maybe I should have left that egg in my mom's coop. A lot of my chickens are mixed breed, farm surprise chickens and I love it. My hatches...
