    Hen pecking

The flock have a perch but the coop for the 2 hens is smaller so they don’t and yes I just moved their pen next to the others.

    Hen pecking

I hatched 3 chickens 4 months ago and have just given the 2 cockerels away which had left me with 1 hen. I was planning on introducing her to my flock that are 22 weeks old. but was told that she would be picked on if I put her in alone so I got another hen to introduce to her in the hopes of...

    Bald spots on chick

I’ve noticed my (almost) 2 week old Orpington chick has always had bald patches on her neck, under her wings and a bit on its back. None of the other chicks have the same problem- is it normal or is something wrong? Attached pics:

    Staggered Hatch Date Worries

You can leave chicks in the incubator for 48 hours after they hatched (they can actually survive without food & water for 72 hours as they live off the absorbed yolk sack so don’t worry too much). When the first lot are dry looks for pips in the other eggs- if there are none then it’s fine to...

I ordered hatching eggs of black, Buff and white silkies. Which colour does my chick fit into if any? It doesn’t looks fully black and seems to have some orange on it.

    Please Help! Malpositioned Upside down??

I had a malpostitioned chick a few weeks ago, he did not break through the air bubble but was chirping a lot and I was very confused. I only knew he was malpositioned when he pipped at the wrong end the next day. All I did was make the pip bigger so he could properly breath, then the next day he...

    Chicks hatching from smaller eggs?

Also chicks tend to hatch sooner when they are in smaller eggs as there is less space.

Why are my chicks not getting along???

Mine did that. I had my first hatch 24 hours before the other. When I first put them together the older one pecked the younger one but I left them to it, seperating them a bit when it was necessary. Now it is day 2-3 and they love each other, they are currently asleep on my lap on top of each...

    Hands on hatching and help

Thank you guys. UPDATE: after 8 hours I took off a bit of the shell so it could breath. It was chirping lots. Now it's been 24 hours and its happily zipping. I'm not sure how as it it not in the air bubble but near the opposite pointy side??

    Hatching questions thread

Did you do eggtopsys on them to see why they didn't hatch? Yeah the longer you store them for before putting in the incubator defiantly decreases the hatch rate. Sory about your loss but congratulations to your 4 :)

It is not a good idea to clean the eggs as it removes the protective layer on the outside of the shell and can also force bacteria into the egg via the pores when you rub it 'clean'.

    Hands on hatching and help

Help! My chick as externaly pipped the wrong place in the egg? The small pip is not in the air bubble area. It's on the side of the egg and slightly nearest the pointy side?? It chirped a few minutes ago but no movement. Is there anything I need to do and will it be ok?

    Candeling

I would keep them in until day 15 and then see as you may mistake them for patterns on the shell or normal blood vessels as it is very hard to see on day 7. They have blood vessels spread around the egg which is a good sign and they black dot is hard to see, I couldn't see mine. Your eggs are...

    Hands on hatching and help

Thank you thats a relief, 2 days ago they were the size of day 7 air bubbles but I lowered the humidity lots now so I hope they will be ok, and yeah I think I am going to late the smelly one out incase it explodes or cracks.

Do ï add him or not??????

Apparently you can put eggs on lockdown up to 5 days before their hatching day but I have never done it so I'm not sure if it 100% safe or not. :)

I would say this is around day 7 and 8 (but I'm not completely sure). I never throw any eggs away before day 15, so I would wait and see with your egg that isn't moving. As it has clear veining, it is alive and should be ok, maybe a bit stuck but will hopefully sort itself out when it grows.Can...
