Help: need treatment for a bill injury

Thank you for the suggestions. I did some quick research about medical glue and her tear to the bill is jagged so I don't think that would work. I am so glad you mentioned antibiotics. I have some from Tractor Supply that I had purchased for some sick chicks a few months ago. I added the...

Help: need treatment for a bill injury

Hello wise duck owners, My pekin duck appears to have been attacked. I found her covered in dried blood with part of her bill almost torn off. I brought her inside to bathe her and to look for other injuries. I only see the damaged bill. There is a large scrape down one side and a piece of it...

    Goats and ticks

Hi, We seem to have ticks everywhere right now. I found some on my Nigerian Dwarfs and I am not sure what to use. One of the goats has been bred. Can I use poultry dust? I have some already, but wasn't sure if it would be safe for them. What are my options? Thanks.

Comment by 'AmieD' in article 'The Art Of Socializing Chickens'

Nice article. I always give my chickens a good amount of attention, but when I am off for breaks (I'm a teacher) they get even more attention. My first day back after Christmas break was hilarious. I opened the door to my gate and was swarmed. I turned my back to close the gate and had a chicken...

    Chicken Breed Focus - Leghorn

I bought 3 White Leghorns; not knowing anything about chickens. They were my best egg layers. Sadly, my dog killed one and the other died of unknown causes. Rosie is still going strong and lays almost an egg per day. She was my last white egg layer so I ordered 3 Brown Leghorns. They are still...

    Ideal Hatchery review

Well, we haven't had the best luck with Ideal. We ended up losing the duckling and two chicks. I asked them to re-ship, but had to add 2 birds for their 5 bird minimum. I paid for the additional two. One of the surviving ducklings from the first shipment has wry neck. I ended up buying vitamins...

what is the Tylan dosage for a standard size rooster

Hi, I know I have read about using Tylan 50 for the treatment of infections, but I cannot remember the dosage or find the thread. I think it was 2 ccs daily in the breast for 5 days or an oral treatment for 7 days, but I am not positive. If you know the correct dosage and administration, please...

How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

This week, I have had a lot of colored eggs, but not so many brown eggs. It dawned on me that I hadn't collected any Cuckoo Marans eggs all week and that chicken loves to jump the fence and go in the woods. We found the stash today. I believe the Golden Laced Wyandottes joined her in her naughty...

    Ideal Hatchery review

I opened the box in the car and found the duckling. I had emailed them after getting home and taking care of the chicks/ducklings.Then I looked over their webpage and saw that I needed to call. I placed a call and explained the situation. The customer service rep. instructed me to call back on...

    Ideal Hatchery review

Thanks. I had the option of extra roos or a heat pack and ordered a heat pack. I already have several roos and needed some more pullets to keep things balanced. Your post made me smile. I am totally chicken crazy and have several breeds. I ordered from MPC in the summer and my order shipped...

    Ideal Hatchery review

I placed an order for 3 ducklings and 8 chicks and was very disappointed. One duckling was dead and almost all of the chicks were weak and had their eyes closed. Although I ordered one, a heating pack was not in the box! I think this is the reason they were all in such bad shape. They were so...

How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

I have several girls laying now, which is awesome, but we have yet to hit a dozen. We are stuck at 11 as our record. I can't wait to hit a dozen, although it wasn't that long ago that I was excited to get my first egg. :)

How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

I think that breeding Ameraucanas and Marans are a common way to make Olive Eggers. I've also seen Cream Legbars and Welsummers bred together. I'm no expert, but I'd guess an Ameraucana or Easter Egger (usually a pea comb) bred with some brown egg layer. My Olive Egger looks like a Blue...

How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

I do love my olive egg. I bought 3 Olive Eggers from a backyard breeder. One died, one turned out to be a roo, and one lays these beautiful eggs. I tried to breed a few green layers by hatching 2 Cream Legbar Eggs and 2 of Blue's (OE) eggs. The father is likely a RIR. I'm pretty sure already...

How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

I almost had my first dozen! All my blue egg layers laid today. The two to the right are from Easter Eggers. I wasn't sure what colors they would lay and I'm glad it wasn't brown. I already have several brown layers. The blue ones to the left are Cream Legbar eggs.

    Fencing Suggestions Needed

Hi, I have a nice fenced in backyard, but I want to expand into the wooded area behind my home. I have 2 Nigerian Dwarf goats, 40+ chickens, and will soon add ducks. I'm wondering what the most cost effective way to fence the area would be. I have a chainsaw that I will use to thin some of the...

    Ideal Hatchery review

I'm not sure, but I would go ahead and call and ask. When I placed my order, due to ship 1/18, they customer service person was so helpful and answered my every question. I did not want extra roos, since I already have several, so I paid an extra $3 for a heating pack.

How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

I had 7 today, which is on the low side. I am amazed that my white leghorn has laid her 7th egg in a row. She is a little machine! All my colored egg layers took a day off so it was the first time in a long time that I only had brown and white eggs.
