    Duck Ramp Grip Options

Dri-deck! Offers good grip and it's good for the birds feet. It's what I make any ramps for my ducks out of

How long until duck can free range?

Thanks for the advice so far everyone! I'm thinking that's what I might do, just kennel him up during the day so he can get familiar with the area. Also yes, I am not at all worried about the muscovy getting raped in this particular situation, lol. Her and my original male call are house ducks...

How long until duck can free range?

Alright, so, long story short (haha just kidding this is a long post) I've got 3 ducks right now, and I'm in a situation I have not encountered before. Two of them, a call drake and a wild muscovy hen, have both been with me since they were young, are incredibly tame, and well trained (they...

    What color is this duck?

Awesome, thanks guys! Also yes, he is indeed a call, however he is larger in size than the standard calls for. He's roughly twice as large as my show sized drake, lol. Still smaller than a wild mallard though, so I'll take it.

    What color is this duck?

I picked this guy up at an auction for 6 bucks today, he's an absolutely beautiful fellow and very friendly to boot, so I'm very happy :) However, I was wondering exactly what color he is. If I had to guess snowy/harlequin with some sort of dilution gene, but I'm certain there are people here...

Does this look like the start of angelwing?

Heyo, thanks for the input everyone! I did decided to bind her wings. First wrapping attempt (Blue sports wrap) was pretty sloppy and she got out of it in like 20 minutes lol. Next I cut a small length of pantyhose and that did the trick, lol. Freaking duck gave me a heart attack the next...

Does this look like the start of angelwing?

So my Muscovy here is 7 weeks old and her flights have started growing in big time the past couple days, and now her wings are a little floppy. Does this look like the starts of angelwing to you guys, or just her wings not used to the weight of the new feathers yet?

Does my duck have angel wing??

First off, she is a very pretty duck :) But yes, like sourland said, she does not have angelwing at all. Ducks are most prone to it when their wings are growing, so for most birds between 1-2.5 months old. Her wings are perfectly fine!

Duckling kicking leg back while walking

She goes for a swim at least once a day, so that should help! We'll see how she feels about a foot soak, as you can see from the first picture shes's a little sassy, lol.

Duckling kicking leg back while walking

Haha, poor sappy duck indeed! Well, my girl doesn't have anything on her feet, and she is still kicking back her one foot, however I think I can put two and two together. She took a little tumble a few days ago (got a little excited while I was taking her for a swim, she jumped from my hands...

    Scabby, Dirty Ducks

Those bald patches on the backs and necks are most likely from being overbred by drakes. A good molt and some time alone from any randy males and they should feather out just fine. It is still molting season, so I would house them separately from your males for at least a few weeks to a month...

Duckling kicking leg back while walking

Hey everyone, I have a 3 week old muscovy duckling who is kicking one of her legs back when she walks. I just noticed this tonight. Her mobility is fine and she doesn't seem to be favoring either leg, but her one leg she just kicks back as she steps periodically?? Is this something I should be...

    Month Old Muscovy Sexing

Hey guys, I picked up a month old muscovy yesterday, and I just wanted some reassurance that I did indeed pick a female, lol. She was one of the smallest out of her clutch, and has female looking feet, however she was not as feathered out as much as some of her siblings (including some very...

    Wood Rail

I've worked with Giant Wood Rails and also keep coots (another type of rail) They are fairly easy to care for, but don't keep them with any small ground dwelling birds. They might make a meal out of them. A good base diet is waterfowl pellets, along with fish and shrimp. Crickets and...

what to feed baby cranes? (help)

Putting aside the fact that what you did is quite irresponsible, not knowing how/what to feed them, that needs to be put aside. They can be started on mealworms fed from tweezers. Another useful thing to have around is a small container with live crickets in it and a few holes punched in the...

    emus in canada?

There is a Ratite diet made by mazuri that caters well to Emu. Also they do need winter housing when kept in cold weather. I would say nothing smaller then 10x10, but it depends on how much time they will have to spend in there. I'm not much of a help with anything else, though. Also keep a...

Anybody have experience with elderly/convalescing coturnix quail?

Perhaps he struck his head against the top of his cage really hard and suffered brain damage ?? I have never seen or had an old bird start to die like that. Normally the legs will start to go at a slow pace, and I've never seen a bird just start flipping over and spazzing. Actually, after a...

    Male Button Bullying female ??

So for the past while my male button quail has been bullying his mate. He will grab at her legs and trip her, and I picked her up today and noticed that she has scabbing around her vent, so I can infer that he has been picking at her around there as well. Is there anything I can do to stop...
