    Any other hawaiians out there?

From a hatchery or breeder? I want to get some but trying to avoid getting hatchery birds, want to get some from a breeder that will ship or a local breeder. Might have to settle for locally bred from hatchery parents.

I read your intro post, where did you get your chickens from? I have been thinking about possibly trying to get some sumatras.

    The Moonshiner's Leghorns

I have read about and seen pics of the Dark and Light barred, thanks for that link also. Thanks for the reply. I have only a few projects, so I can only imagine the difficulty of tracking all the projects you have, which is understandable that you wouldn't be going down possible genetic "bunny...

    The Moonshiner's Leghorns

Where you able to determine the mode of inheritance of his lighter color? Possibly diluter gene/genes, or lack of melanizing gene/genes?

    Color genetics thread.

Tried that calculator the +S in the color description is saying it is yellow/golden color and has one silver gene, that can be confusing because the + is normally used to designate the 'wildtype' gene. It looks like it is used correctly in the genotype. Male parent is gold so pullets will all...

Kauai Moa Discussion, E Komo Mai!

Hi! I have friends that have a few Muscovy ducks but no chickens. I had both when I was little and don't remember our chickens (mostly Leghorns) attacking any of the ducks. If your hens aren't hurting the ducks then they should be okay, just keep an eye on them. I would get rid of the rooster...

Lavender patterned Isabel duckwing barred - lavender brown cuckoo barred - project and genetic dis

Read through everything from the beginning and it took me a while! Very interesting so staying tuned. Not sure if it was mentioned but there is an opal color variety in OEGB that is may be tied to a genetic mutation. Some confusion may result from calling these opals. Though there are many cases...

Kauai Moa Discussion, E Komo Mai!

Update on keeping feral roosters out of my parents place: Had a Brahma/Jersey Giant/Marans mix cockerel ranging and guarding the yard and the hens (which were in the coop/run). He did ok but got a little injured from a feral rooster, probably because he was young with nubby spurs. Crowing was...

His barring is variable, but I think you are correct and he has one copy of the barring gene from his mom.

Now seeing the close-up pic I agree with Moonshiner, it doesn't look like that chick is Barred. And yes the Delaware rooster is Barred.
