    Hawk attacks on our ducks

I've never heard of a livestock guardian dog! Somebody suggested shooting bottle rockets off to scare them away. We have to be careful not to upset the neighbors

    Hawk attacks on our ducks

The perimeter of our yard is surrounded by trees. That's exactly where they sit. When we see them, we put the ducks back in their coop.

    Hawk attacks on our ducks

That just doesn't make sense to me. We have only ever had 2 ducks at a time. We don't have lots of wildlife in our development. Lots of squirrels, but I've never even seen a raccoon! I know they are out there, but I've never seen them. Yet here we are, hawks aplenty.

    Hawk attacks on our ducks

Ours have been full grown when killed. They are locked up every night. They are let out to free range every day. The woman at the farm where we got our newest duck said the hawks will keep coming back because they know there is food here.

    Hawk attacks on our ducks

The first attack was in the summer. The hawk took the duck and flew away. Gone. The one that killed Jelly last week stayed on our property. We just got a new duck for Quackers. She's a Muscovy. We are not leaving them outside of their coop alone. There is snow in the ground now, so it's...

    Hawk attacks on our ducks

Yes. It would not move away from the body. My husband got very close before it flew away, then it circled around close enough that my husband felt the wind from its flapping wings! Then it perched in a tree and watched. I came outside to watch while he got our duck back in the cage and got...

    Hawk attacks on our ducks

I don't see how we can make it safer. We have trees along the perimeter of our yard, on the neighbor's property. The first attack was in the summer. The were in an enclosure with no roof. I don't know how the hawk didn't get its wings caught. The hawk attempted to attack my husband when he...

    Hawk attacks on our ducks

Hello, In the 3 years we have had ducks, we've had two killed by hawks. Our original, Quackers, saw her sister taken by a hawk. We got another duck named Jelly. She was attacked and killed yesterday in front of Quackers, and my two daughters. It was horrific. We buried Jelly today. I guess...

    Suddenly aggressive female khaki campbell

She is the dominant duck. She has been with both ducks. She has had a definite personality change since her sister was taken. My daughter went to let them out of the coop this morning and held the "diva duck" for a bit.

    Suddenly aggressive female khaki campbell

Thank you for the tips. I will start incorporating some silliness into it so she doesn't feel bad. And she's not timid, so standing her ground won't be a problem. We are all confused by this sudden change in behavior.

    Taste of Duck Eggs

Where do you buy duck/chicken food without fish? Our eggs have a slightly fishy taste that is really unpleasant. The food we use is a poultry blend. My husband doesn't think our Tractor Supply store has a no-fish duck food.

    Suddenly aggressive female khaki campbell

Hello, We had two female khaki Campbell ducks. At about one year old, one of our ducks was taken by a hawk. We added a female indian runner. They get along wonderfully, and did immediately. What has changed is the aggressiveness of our original khaki Campbell, and it seems to only be with my...
