@minihorse927 I did laugh out loud at that autocorrect, and assumed it was one, haha.
I cannot feel anything substantial in her crop, just a general squishy mass. She is pooping, and we are giving her an Epsom salt flush to help move things along today. She's still alert and active at this...
So sorry to hear that! You really did try, but that wound was very substantial. You made her warm and comfortable in her last moments, and that was the best and kindest thing you could do for her.
@appps no that is great, we do prefer natural as a first resort, but we are fine with medication if it is necessary. It just seems like people are pretty quick to jump the gun and just say, "treat her for worms and coccidiosis and bacteria" just in case. I come from a background in public health...
And probably don't let her soak for too long in the tub, you'll want to give the wounds a chance to heal. Coconut oil is antibacterial and will help coat and protect the wounds to keep the skin from stretching uncomfortably as she heals too. And really, try that rooster booster poultry wound...
CV is Apple Cider Vinegar. Make sure to get an organic kind that says "with the mother" meaning the mother culture of bacteria. It will fill her gut with good bacteria to help her fight off any bad bacteria. I use Bragg's organic.
Hope that helps!
Thank you @Teila and @Wyorp Rock!
Teila, I am sure she would love some sardines, thank you for that suggestion!
Wyorp Rock - should we provide her grit now? She ate some yesterday but we took her off food again today because she wasn't improving. I did read the chicken chick article...
Thanks @minihorse927! She has not presented any other symptoms common with respiratory ailments. We have tried now to make her vomit, but nothing comes out... She was vomiting on her own, so I wonder if she got most of the liquid out.
We are providing cayenne for potential worms.
Also, I recommend mixing a 1/2 cup honey, 2 cloves of garlic, and 2 tablespoons ACV in a gallon of water and providing the injured hen that. You'll have to warm the water to dissolve the honey, and then cool it again before giving it to her.
Saline rinse can help clean out debris, and then we use Rooster Booster wound spray. Never have treated anything that bad before, though I have heard of others using the spray successfully on deep wounds. If you don't have quick access to something like that, I have used neosporin on minor...
New to BYC. We have a 7 month old black australorp, who is suffering from sour crop. I believe we caught it early on. She is alert and active, and has a bit of an appetite, but is not eating much.
Here is the problem:
1. She is vomiting when she leans too far forward.
2. She seems to want to...
We have a 7 mo. chicken with sour crop. She has been vomiting if she bends over too far, so we have not really made her vomit much. She went 24 hours without food, and then we fed her some scrambled eggs (a small amount) and a small amount of cooked oatmeal with baking soda, cinnamon, ginger...
Does this picture look like scaly leg mites to anybody? We have a chicken who over the past few weeks has started to seem sick. She acts slightly depressed, and has been a bit of a loner recently. She tends to sit and rest more often than usual, and not run around like she used to. She is still...
