We had a hen that we tried to break from being broody but she just would not give up so we let her sit in 3 eggs. Last Sunday only 1 hatched. The others we gave a few more days but they never hatched. Mama did great with this baby the first couple of days but then she started always scratching...
Only 2 left out today. When the door opened for last call, I put them on the ground and they went right in. They know what to do just have to catch on. Thanks for you reply
We put in a ADOR automatic chicken door over the weekend. The first night all chicks went in but 1. So I had to let it in. Now, everynight at least 6-8 chicks get ontop of the nesting boxes outside and dont want to go in. They all cuddle up and ready for bed. How do we train them to go inside...
Good idea. I will make sure to make a door at each end for them. I have two differnt feeder and water areas in the coop and also food and water in the run.
Thanks for your help and ideas. This is the first time we had to introduce chicks so im clueless to what is normal. I knew the hens will...
The poor chicks seem scared of the hens. I have 2 hens that will not leave them alone. As days go by it seems to get a little better. They LOVE the "Safe Box". Started out with just a big cardboard box BUT it rained. So today I bought 2 big tupperware boxes. Going to cut a door for the chicks...

Any advice on auto chicken doors on your coop? My husband travels for work and I want to be able to go visit him. We want to put in a aitomatic chicken door so they can come and go into the covered run while I am gone and all my parents have to do is feed them.
Any brands better then others?
Thanks!
Our brooder is in the chicken coop so our hens have seen the chicks for about 3-4 weeks. Today I let them hens roam and put the chicks into our covered run to play and explore. The hens went into the run and seemed to be doing good. Then a couple of the hens started chasing the chicks and...
We live in Michigan and have very similuar weather. Our chicks are about the same age. We put their brooder in the coop about 3 weeks ago. They are doing just fine with the weather at night. They cuddle up and keep warm. Now, Im trying to get them out of the brooder so they can go outside in the...
They are about 6 weeks. My hens almost a year. The chicks have been in their brooder in the coop so the hens could see them and get to know them. It took the out the other day and 2 hens kept pecking at them. So I seperated them. The weather is getting nice and I want the chicks to get outside...
The chicks are about 6 weeks old. They have been in the coop in a brooder box that has net siding so they hens have been able to see them for awhile now. Maybe I can section off part of the run so they can go out without being picked on by the hens.
So, I let the chicks out if their brooder (located in the coop) amd two of our hens went right after them and were being mean. I ended up seperating them. I know this is normal but do I just let them do their thing? I know there will be some picking on. I just got worried and scared because I...
