Hey Casportpony - Tried to PM you but cant figure out how. Wanted to know what you think. I was only giving her once a day because I thought it was too hard on her, however some are saying it may not have been enough for her to help her. Would this be something I can circle back and do again...
Darn I screwed up then. Do you think i can extend the days then and get a few more days of 2 doses in? I just didn't want it to be too hard on her fragile body as people were saying it can be hard on the liver etc. :(
I'm noticing she's doing better overall. Her demeanor is better and she has more energy and desire to explore and peck around.
I dropped her dosage to once a day, i think twice a day was hard on her.
Any idea how long I should continue to dose her? Should i add in some baytril?
I definitely can. I know Casportpony said once or twice a day, but I wasnt sure what is best. I don't want to overwhelm her, but at the same time I don't want to not give her enough to be effective.
How quickly do you start seeing results from this medication?
Going to start with .2-.3 oral today. I didnt want to start last night in case she wouldn't feel well during the night from the medicine. Figured it'd be better to start her during the day when she's active. Does anyone think feeding the water solution of the medicine is helpful/beneficial at...
I decided tonight to give her a few cc's of the mixture of water and medicine in 1 gallon/4.7ml. I slowly fed it into her beak. I didnt want to give her too harsh of medicine before bed so I figured this very light mixture would help get her started while providing her with some fluids as well...
Ok so 0.3ml of 40% sulfadimethoxine once or twice a day. Thank you Casportpony. I had a camera set up on her to see if she would drink the water with the medicine in it, but when I happened to catch her she would put her beak down by the water but then not drink it. As if she knew there was...
Anyone can handle the math to figure out how to give an oral dosage of the 40% sulfadimethoxine for a 5lb hen. I'm not strong enough with math for something important like this.
I dont think water was effective enough as just simply not drinking enough and id like to give a 5 day oral dosage...
Yes thank you so much Casportpony. I am awful with math and this will help me. I think I should do the oral dosage. Since not sure if its 0.03 or 0.06 per lb of bodyweight, i suppose i should give the lesser? Is it a 5 day treatment, once per day? From what I researched, if it works it should...
I'm having a hard time converting the dosages to my 40% and into gallons. I believe the 40% is considerably stronger/more potent than most products since it's for cattle. Any help converting or helping me understand is appreciated
Hey Texas Kiki, here is the pic of the product I was able to get on the internet. Hen has Coryza I'm pretty darn sure after my research here. Bad smell coming from head/face. Yellow stuff building up in lower eye lids. Scabby and crusty things on face, wattle, comb and areas above nostrils.
Hey guys, I was able to get the sulfadimethonxine 40% injectable (for cattle) online and I am having trouble determining the best non-injectable way to give this to my hen. She is drinking fine so water is an option. I am also able to give an oral dosage if someone can help me with the dosage...
good morning, looking for any help. she seems to be fine most of the time with the others, but when i give them treats , one hen seems to always pick on her, chases her away from the food. How can i fix this bullying!
Bump. Really hoping someone can chime in who has had a chicken who closes her eyes but doesnt display any other symptoms of being sick. She is being picked on a tiny bit, but I think the entire pecking order is changing because other chickens are standing up to each other as well. She is not...
Nope her tail is up and she has plenty of energy and runs. But I just find it so odd that she closes her eyes while standing or laying down. It is a sign that a chicken is sick but she doesnt have any other symptons so I'm really boggled.
Good afternoon, so one hen that was towards the top of the pecking order seems to be getting picked on a bit by several other chickens. I've noticed eyes closing here and there, but not really any other symptoms. She is eating and drinking and running around just fine.
I dusted her as best as...
Hey Cuckoo - That makes me feel a whole lot better that it may take some more time to see any reduction in the swelling. She definitely seems like she has increased energy, strength and overall wellness. She is still not doing perfect by any means, but I can tell she feels a bit better. I will...
