Broody hen moves to a new hen box

She's a white wyandotte, about 2 yrs old. Her first time broody. She's sitting on new eggs, not laying new eggs - that I know of. She doesn't normally "sleep" in the hen box. When I put the 3 under her she had 3 already under her and she pushed them under her with the rest. Now she's on another...

Broody hen moves to a new hen box

Ok, so some of you may have read my previous thread about first time broody hen and the unfortunate outcome of trying to move her to a smaller coop about day 18. She never went back on the eggs so I lost them. New issue, question - after I moved her back to main coop, the very next day she was...

First time broody hen, need advise

Thanks for the info. You're probably right that she's getting up at some point for food and water. The food is inside the coop in an automatic feeder. The water is outside. I'll be sure to check the eggs and mark them. I didn't think of that.

First time broody hen, need advise

She's a wyandotte then. We've had rats before and we're able to get them with a trap. They do get away sometimes though.

First time broody hen, need advise

She is back in the main coop with the others. She apparently wants to be there. I don't think the others will be an issue. They weren't the last time. I would like for her to keep them and mother the chicks. The only thing I worry about is her getting enough food water. I was taking her a...

First time broody hen, need advise

Ok, update again. So I go out there this afternoon and she's back to sitting on a whole new set of eggs! I put 2 more under her, but jeez. So now we're back to square one. 3 weeks and this time I'm not moving her until after they hatch! If a move her then, she's won't abandon them will she?

First time broody hen, need advise

No, unfortunately she did not. I placed them right next to her on the ground and next morning they were scattered all over. I'm pretty upset, but lesson learned I guess. I put her back in main coop and she's back to her non-broody self. Thanks for asking Angela

First time broody hen, need advise

Well it’s getting dark now and she still won’t go in the new nest. I’ve tried coaxing her in but no luck. Oh well don’t know what else to do. I guess the eggs won’t hatch now. Bummed.

First time broody hen, need advise

Ok need help. Spent half day setting up my other smaller coop that is attached to the larger one. The others are closed off from it. So I move mama and eggs and she won’t go in the new best! She’s just scratching around it for now. I did see her turn and look in so I think she sees the eggs...

First time broody hen, need advise

Thanks. I’m going to go out today and set up a closed in area for her on the ground. I hope I can get her to move. She won’t budge when I try to see what she’s sitting on.

First time broody hen, need advise

Hi everyone. I have a hen that went broody a few weeks ago. This is a first for her and me. I know she has eggs under her, but I haven't been able to check. She packs hard if I try to get near. Hatching should happen sometime this week based on my calculations. So, I have a few questions to say...
