Help! Broody Buff getting bullied. :(

Hi all! I have a broody Buff Orpington, 1 year old. She's been in her coop/run with the other hens since they were born. This one's gone broody but has still been eating/drinking as far as I can tell. What I've seen lately though is that the others are starting to bully her. I thought it...

    The treat list

Seriously people skin their tomatoes first? I've heard the greens are bad but not the skins. Pretty sure I'd have sick/dead chickens by now the way they raided the ones that fell off my plants last year....

    The dreaded spring cleaning question

I use the deep litter method with pine shavings and every 2 weeks i scoop out the poop on top & rustle up everything else. How often do you TOTALLY empty out all the bedding and scrub everything down? Also, what do you use to disinfect that won't be harmful to the birds? Thanks for any advice...

    Peppers

omg too funny! My hens like them, but sometimes act this way with anything new, so i tend to throw in a mix of stuff to pick at and just watch to see what they leave behind.

    My babies

Very sweet! My kids live giving them treats & learning what they do/don't like. Plus my hens go wild when they see the kuds coming outside, which is really cool for them.

    The treat list

Our LOVE tomatoes, but I just read a WPR post that they shouldn't eat them? True or false. I'm thinking false or mine would be dead or sick by now.... ;)

    Oyster Shell

Throw it down in the run so tgat naturally scratch it up & find it like they would pebbles when they are free-ranging.

Help, my free rangers are roaming the neighborhood! :(

Yeah....that's what I was afraid I'd hear. I have a run built, but may build a "mobile one" too to give them some variety. Shoot.

Help, my free rangers are roaming the neighborhood! :(

Ugh, that's what I was afraid of. I can likely let them run the yard while we're outside, but I guess they're getting stuck in the run while we're away! Stinkers. Thanks for the tip!

Help, my free rangers are roaming the neighborhood! :(

I have been free ranging my 5 BOs all summer, but recently they've started getting braver and are starting to roam the neighborhood! I don't want to keep them stuck in the run all day, but I can't have them roaming the neighborhood either. Tips to keep them in the yard or teach them boundaries...

    Nail & beak trimming?

I've only had my 5 BO hens since April, but I remember reading something about possibly needing to trim their nails and/or beaks? Is this true?

    WHICH CHICKEN IS THAT ONE?

You have to watch the sizing as they grow & may need to replace several times before their legs reach full size

    WHICH CHICKEN IS THAT ONE?

I bought some leg tags at farm n fleet, but wouldn't recommend them because they have wire ends that can be pokey. Recently found plastic bands (think carnival wrist bands, but sturdier) at a local chicken store. :)

What treat did your chickies get today?

I never realized there was so much they can eat! My girls are going to LOVE fridge cleaning day, as long as I pull stuff out before it molds. ;) chili in there right now.....this ought to be interesting!!

    Started, then stopped, laying??

She's doing great now that I let them free range again and has resumed laying almost 1/day. I even checked on them this a.m. when I found the other 4 scratching in a pile together without her and caught her hanging out in the nesting box. She obviously knows where to go! Do you think that...

    Started, then stopped, laying??

Thanks for the comments! Yes, I have ceramic eggs in both of the nesting boxes, and one is covered and one is not (to see which they prefer). She laid in the covered nesting box twice now, so I think she understands that is what it's for. Given that none of the others have started laying yet...

    Started, then stopped, laying??

I have 5 BOs and am new to chicken raising. My girls were hatched in April and one just starting laying about a week ago. I was letting them free range, so on the 3rd day when there wasn't an egg I thought I'd better close the run to help her learn where to lay. She dropped her egg in the...
