Broody momma- letting her raise ducklings...

Just read your thread. We are no where NEAR that prepared. We started with quail and chuckars this year so are rearranging the coop areas. It's a large area that's fenced with 8ft chain-link. (We are out in the middle of nowhere and get many large predators). My female isn't inside. She...

Broody momma- letting her raise ducklings...

Hi all, I have a Broody momma duck and we've decided to let her hatch/ raise her ducklings. (She's party of a flock of 7- including two drakes). Has anyone done this with their flock? Any advice? Should I separate her and the ducklings?

    Missing neck Feathers

Is there a way to separate based on their mating preference? or just separate 4 hens per drake? Or would it be better to just separate the drakes from the hens at night? It's a very large yard where they are loose during the day. Not sure that matters?

    Missing neck Feathers

Thank you!! I will keep an eye out for limping/hurt legs too. So far nothing but the missing feathers, but I worry that if they keep trying to hold where there are no feathers, that they will eventually hurt the girls.

How to tell if my duck is egg bound?

She is fine!! I put her in a warm bath to swim and be on her own. She pooped a few times and was eating. Whether it was fat or some sort of other problem, she's doing well now. I apologize for the late response as life got busy!! Thank you all!

    Missing neck Feathers

Hi everyone, I have a flock of 10 (2 drakes). It includes one khaki campbell, 4 blue swedish, and 5 Cayugas. The drakes are both Blue swedish. Recently I have noticed some of the cayugas missing feathers on the back of their neck. I mean like I see patches of just skin. Is this just the Blue...

Hi everyone, Fairly new duck/chicken owner here (it's been a little over a year with very few problems). I have a flock of 10 with blue swedish, cayugas, and a khaki campbell named Bella Bell. I'm a little concerned for my khaki as we have two drakes from the last 4 ducklings we raised which...

I do actually! I started a post about stressed ducks with a question of how long it usually takes for them to return to normal laying amounts after "stress".

hi! new member from Western WA

Hi everyone! I've used the site numerous times for info and finally decided to join! We have a mixed flock. Started last year with Cayugas, inherited some chickens and a rooster, then added 2 khaki campbells. We added 4 blue swedish this year bringing our count to 11 ducks, 4 chickens, and a...

how long before stressed ducks start laying again?

I have 5 Cayugas and 2 khaki Campbells. This summer we introduced 4 blue swedish. My girls were laying 4-6 eggs a day, but since introducing the blue swedish, it's gone down drastically! I'm lucky if I get one a day! It's been almost 8 weeks now and I'm starting to worry! Is this normal...
