Mine are nearly 4 weeks, and they are doing nicely. I'm guessing that they avg 1.75 lbs. They are an even mix, on grass with a heat lamp, it has hit 20 degrees at night and they are doing good. I've lost 2 in 4 weeks, both were runts that got pushed out of the way. They are active, I hope to let...
Whats the cost of a dozen and half of hatching eggs? i had some Dark Cornish Chicks, and during the winter something got in and killed all of my chicks.
I'm looking for some hatching eggs from Turkens and Dark Cornish. I want these for myself, don't need show quality. more so lines of good size and frame. I've read that turkens make good meat birds, and I would like to try them free ranging over 2.5 acres.
I figured that would happen. They are pretty birds. My wife loves bronze turkeys, and I myself like Bourbon Reds. Thanks for the pic. Any of young poults?
Anyone have this cross? I'm thinking about getting these two breeds in the spring and wanted to see some pics of such a cross.
Thanks in advance,
Matthew
Let me chime in on these broiles. I've got 7 here, I used them as packing peanuts. They are 6 weeks old, and are approx. 50% larger than the white rocks and standard cornish they arrived with. They are good foragers, and I have had them ranging for 2 weeks not. Lost one to a dog, but overall...
I ordered some red broilers from Ideal, and they are now a week and a half old. They are very active, and are jsut as alert as my white rock and DC chicks that I ordered with them. They are in a heated brooder coop now, and I plan on putting them on pasture at 4 weeks, they seem to be feathering...
I would disagree that a backyard flock breeder couldn't develop a better meat bird. Some of our greatest innovations came from single people who devoted a great deal of time to their projects. Stay focused on what you strive for, and cull heavy and that will lead to success. Research and...
I'm trying to find either hatching eggs or started birds within a reasonable driving range of Bluefield Va. I can handle shipped eggs. I am looking for a dark cornish, bu tI would also consider a buff or red laced as well. I am starting a breedig project, and I'm in need of Standard cornish now...
I've never done it with chickens, I have with goats and I've been impressed. I have a purebred Kiko buck, and had a doeling out of a spanish doe, and at 4 months she bigger than a year old boer doe we have. I ws thinking along the lines of standard Cornish, Buckeyes, and New Hampshire Reds. I...
I figured this place was the right place to post this question. When crossing various breeds of chickens, what type of increase in weight gain, egg laying ability, faster featheriing etc., can be seen as a result of hybrid vigor? Say if you have two distinct F1 crosses, and those two are crossed...
I have two welsummer roos (2months) and a RIR roo (4 months). If I keep them with my 3 RIR and 3 welsummer hens, and they have ample room and also get to roam during the evening, am I going to be ok or should I go ahead and seperate them?
I wouldn't agree with that. People that have maintained the ORIGINAL bloodlines by selectivly breeding Welsummers have maintained the birds that were brought in, and they maintain the same criteria that Barber and others like him held them too. I've got these 5 chicks, and I've got 3 NHR pullets...
I've got my chicks on my front porch right now. Instead of getting 2 cockerals and 3 pullets, she showed me that they are 1 cockeral and 4 pullets!!! I'll try and find my camera to upload some pics. They are 3 weeks old, nearly fully feathered and very active. Knats keep flitting in the tote...
I'm going to be picking up 2 cockerals and 3 pullet chicks from the lady that bought Barber's stock right before he died. I'll try and post pics of them tomorrow evening, I'm realy excited to be obtaining these chicks. I'll also have the option of buying more in a few weeks, she's hatching out...
I'm looking for 4 Dark Cornish Hens and 1 Dark Cornish Rooster. I may end up getting 6 or so hens. I'm located in Bluefield WV. Thank you. I may consider hatching eggs as well, either way would be fine but I would prefer grown birds.
How do the Buff Sussex mature in comparison to the Red and Light sussex? I am going to be getting some Standard Cornish hens, and I wanted something to cross them with that would give me a decent maturing cross.
