I doubt I’ll be keeping them much longer because they’re mixed breed and I’ve got limited space :( that’s why I’m hoping they’re pullets as it’ll make it a lot easier to find good homes for them
Yep hatched them myself, will be 8 weeks old this weekend. I know what you mean though, they’re in with a couple of legbars that are a week older and these ones have overtaken them in size.
Thanks for the reply. I had looked at that and thought maybe 2 & 4 looked okay? I also thought maybe the lack of current development in the others maybe due to the incubation problems at the start? Any insight would be grately appreciated
Hi all,
I have just candled my eggs at day 7 and was looking for your advice on whether any are good or all bad.
I had issues at the start of incubation as my incubator stopped working after 2 hours. I had another delivered 2 days later so the eggs were stood for 2 days in between.
Please let...
Hi all,
I had some fertilised eggs delivered and borrowed an incubator from my neighbour.
I set the incubator up and put the eggs in after letting them sit for 24 hours.
The incubator stopped working after roughly 1-2 hours.
If I was to buy a new incubator and have it delivered on Tuesday...
Hi all,
I am looking to purchase eggs to hatch to join my light sussex hens. I want to go for a different breed and incase one or more of the eggs turn out to be a cockerel, which breed would make a nice cross with a light Sussex?
Thanks in advance.
Alex
I definitely won’t be getting eggs from the same place again. Unfortunately I only have females otherwise I would’ve let her sit on her own. I understand why getting rid of her would make sense but as I see my girls as pets I wouldn’t want to do that.
Bless him! Does it hinder him in any way?
She’s constantly broody! Stops for a week then starts again which is why I gave up and bought her some eggs but I will try myself next time! Thanks for all of your help.
Sorry I’m pretty new to keeping chickens and hatching, what is cross beak?
The other egg is still intact and unpipped, I’ve left it under my broody and was going to give it until tomorrow (day 25) to see if it makes any progress.
I was more considering buying an incubator and brooder and...
I went out to check in on the progress this morning and my broody appears to have squashed the chick it was mostly out of the egg but squashed flat and dead.
I can’t think of anything other than the broody must’ve squashed it while sitting?
Thank you for the advice! I have also attached a picture of the egg, does this look normal? Chick still moving and making noise. It has been like this for a few hours now.
Hi all,
I bought 6 fertilised light Sussex eggs from Ebay to put under my broody. I haven’t had the best of luck with them as 3 were bad and exploded under my broody at around day 18. I cleaned the nest box and the remaining 3 and left them under her.
Yesterday was day 23 and still no pips...
Thanks for the replies and sorry for the lack of any pictures. I'll have a look for new pin feathers later. Am I right in thinking she won't be laying eggs while she's molting?
Thanks again!
